As the only aim was promotion had we won those three games but still not got us up he should still have gone. He didnt loose his job over three games he lost it over three months as we have been **** since Christmas and something had to be done.

My point was related to the lack of effort of some of our players over those 3 games.
You mention that if we won those 3 games and not got promoted , he should have gone.
Ok , I accept that.
I can also accept that games are lost - nobody in League 2 is very consistent.
What I am saying though is the timing of his sacking came after 3 abject home performances and the players must take some of the blame for that 'timing'.
I just wonder if there will be more of a spring in their step to impress the new guy ?

Paul Sturrock was one of the best managers,in my sixty years of supporting SUFC. Although some people feel Luggy is unconventional in his methods,to work under a chairman, embargos,High Court actions must have been more than difficult. What a macnificent job in very trying circumstances.I for one, will reserve a special cheer for Paul on April 7th.
Thank you Paul, and my best wishes to you in health and future employment.

And had an angry mob knocking on his door had he of won the JPT? Why would he want to risk a protest outside his house again? This way seems much more fitting as win or lose, the fans, players and Sturrock are under no illusion.

I think we are all under an illusion whilst Ron Martin continues as Chairman.

Cheers Luggy for all your efforts as manager of the Shrimpers and best of luck for the future and especially at Wembley.

A genuine thank you Paul Sturrock, for all that you have done for Southend United.

I honestly believe that without you the club would be either non-league or out of business now.

The job of stabilisation you did in the firt season was excellent, and to not go up last season with the points tally we had was very, very, unlucky.

Thanks for getting us to Wembley - see you there

Thank you Mr Sturrock for all that you have done for Southend United.

You are a great manager and a true gentleman. Good luck for the future, whatever it may hold.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Cheers Luggy. Some fantastic matches and memories, and you definitely leave us in a pretty good position with a good squad. Thanks for your hard work and efforts, and best wishes for the future.

Every luck in the future Paul. You saved us from extinction when you first got here, were so unlucky not to get automatic promotion and always did your very best - and with a dreadful illness. Enjoy YOUR day at wembley. We will salute you, each and everyone of us.

Thanks for everything Luggy, sorry it ended like this - will always appreciate what you did for the club. Best of luck for the future.

Thank you Paul. You have been a good servant of Southend United. You have gone about the job quietly and with dignity.
I will judge you by the state of the club when you took over and where we are today. You deserve credit for stabalizing a "sinking ship" and getting us moving in the right direction. You are an experienced football man, and I'm sure will accept your fate in a professional manner. However, This should have been handled in a different way, you deserve that.

Thank you once again, from a life long shrimper. You will go down in my book as one of the most important managers in our club's history. The right man at a critical time.

Many thanks from me too. Didn't always agree with your selections, but none of us will ever know what the true state of players' fitness was, so I expect you always picked the best available. Good luck in the future especially if it is at Portsmouth, which is nearer to me than Southend. As somebdoy else has already said let's blame the Aldershot floodlights I was at both those games !! Can I just add I think Ron's statement is very well put & should show his knockers that Ron is Southend through & through.

I'd like to use this thread to take the opportunity to thank PS for what he has done and wish him well for the future. PS has no doubt tried his hardest and given his all. Thanks PS.

As someone who was disgusted about the way Sturrock was appointed and the disgraceful treatment of Tilly I have to admit he has done a decent job. What RM expects when he continues to undermine all the good work the coaching and management staff do I really don't know. The man is delusional, there probably isn't a better manager out there for SUFC right now.

Thank you Paul for all your hard work.

Good interview - his humour came across well and it sounds like he is leaving on decent terms despite being sacked! Still think it's a shame he couldn't go at the end of the season but can see the logic in giving Brown the chance to assess things in the last 7 league games.
