Legend. IMHO Brown will walk away not long into his tenure after talking openly about having his hands tied.

Can't buy class like Paul; another club would be stupid not to take you on sir.

He was going to leave anyway so as he failed in his targets for the second season running, he is right to go.

I am confused with all the love for Sturrock, a nice gent with a half decent track record in the past, but he was looking to jump the Roots Hall ship in the summer, are people happy with that?

I'm confused - maybe this was common knowledge amongst players as it certainly seemd to be amongst fans, I have experienced it myself....a manager on his way out tends to lose the dressing room, maybe thats whats happend here!!!

He did seem to make it clear he was leaving anyway....bit odd if you ask me, especially if the players knew it was happening, possible explanation for recent **** poor displays. Or was he talking rubbish and playing down the fact he got booted

My thoughts too - all seems a bit weird.

I heard from a few people that he wanted out and had his house up for sale. I don't knows if Sturrock ever really liked it here that much if I am honest. Had a few moans about the fans at home games, had to axe his woeful son, preferred his darling Plymouth as it was a small town so all the players lived closer together and mixed more....Southend and Essex area too big etc Throw Ron Martin in the mix and it couldn't have been too much fun

A very good manager of our club....Great knowledge of lower league football, just a shame with a few different results here and there we could have been looking at a very successful period for us. Good luck in the future, what ever team gets you next will be very lucky!

I know so folk think I talk drivel .But Sturrock leaving at the end of the season has been touted around the pub for weeks .No smoke without fire they say :winking:

The way I hoped it was, that he was thinking of leaving anyway. Unlucky here not to get another promotion, he built sides that definitely had the potential to do it.
Good to hear it from his side, interesting he will be training all week with the lads.

I think if you listen he states that no approach was made to renew/extend his contract therefore he knew the writing was on the wall for the end of the season.I think the Plymouth game was the decider for Ron when for the 3rd important match in a row the team didn't seem motivated, then when he made the subsitutions the crowd turned on Luggy for the 1st time.

Thank you Mr Sturrock. You came to SUFC and stayed when everyone else was running a mile. You had the smallest of small amounts to work with, but rolled your selves up and got on with the fiasco that you inherited. You will always be be a pleasant memory in my life when I think of SUFC past and present.

I'll be interested to see where you go next, Luggy because boy, do you like a challenge. You saved this club, and that's a wonderful legacy. Last season was one of the most exciting in years and I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing the team winning away so many times. Thank you.

It didn't work out as we all would have liked but thanks for reviving our fortunes and keeping our club's heart beating through difficult times. Your a true gent and good luck for the future.

Thank you Paul for everything you did for Southend. You conducted yourself with great dignity throughout.

PLEASE ensure you come over to the Southend fans after the game at Wembley so that we can all show our appreciation to you.

Good luck in the future and pop back sometime and see us again.

I think its more likely he was " HOOFED" out, :winking:

Nice bloke but seems to me like he has lost his passion for managing us a long time ago and I think that reflected in his lack of ability to motivate the players. Wish him well but glad it happend as it did.
