Only just read Mr Martins statement and I am absolutely fuming (admittedly a bit drunk). I do understand there are many threads on this topic but would like a thread in support of Paul Sturrock who I feel has done an unbelievable job in the last few years.

ONE PAUL STURROCK

P.s Hate Martin , Love Southend!!

It's an absolute FARCE of a situation. The logical answer would have been to inform PS after the final, with Phil Brown coming in on April 8th. This would have given Brown a good few weeks and games to assess the playing staff ahead of next season, as well as allowing Luggy to lead us out at Wembley (which is the very least he deserves for what he's done for this club).

The league season is OVER, whether Sturrock is in charge or Brown it is FINISHED. So what gives Ron? Why create this situation now? It's a truly dreadful way to treat a manager without who - like or lump his home tactics this season - we could quite possibly have been in the Conference.

Personally if I was Luggy I'd tell Martin to stuff it, however I'm glad he'll be managing the team at Wembley. And what's more we should sing our hearts out for this man and - win or lose - give him the respectful send-off that he should have been afforded from his Chairman. It'll be a strange situation, I don't know of any other whereby an ex-manager has come back for one game to lead the team again and I'm sure Sky will have a field day with it. One thing's for sure I doubt there will have ever been a group of players more determined to win at Wembley than our boys will be that day, they'll be desperate to do it for Sturrock. Let's get behind him and the team and bring that damn trophy home.

Very good point made above too, if Brown loses the next couple of games but Sturrock then wins at Wembley with 30,000+ Shrimpers singing his name there will only be one man with egg on their face and that's Martin.

#MartinOut

If Sturrock won at Wembley it would be impossible to them sack him. Rom obviously feels that is a risk he doesn't want.

It's the only possible reason isn't it, although it's been disgustingly handled and Martin should be ashamed IMHO. With the way we've faltered in the league this season I think many would have accepted a change in the summer (even if we won the JPT) and wished Sturrock well, but there's no question he deserved better than this.

Thanks for coming in at a time that the soul had been ripped out of the club, we had no players and no identity, and were seemingly facing another relegation and turning things round for us. I dont think anyone can deny what a great job you did.
You've always conducted yourself as a gentleman, and have served Southend well.

I would like to add my thanks and admiration for the job you did in very difficult circumstance's at Root's Hall.
You did a great job to build the side you did after taking over the club when we had so few player's.
Sure we all wanted promotion but seeing Southend play at Wembley has always been a dream of mind so
I will be forever grateful for the big role you played in making that happen.
Hopefully you will get another job and achieve that milestone of 1,000 games as a manager as you come
across as a real football man so deserve that honour.

And what should be Paul Sturrock's final act of management at Wembley? Return those scissors to Bilel Moshni and tell him that Ron Martin's actually a Leyton Orient man.

Is it over ? under PS I thought it was. But and yes it's a big, but 21 more points to play for. You never know.

Thank you Paul, you are a good man and a fantastic lower league manager and you came so close to making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. As a regular away supporter, watching the team on the road has rarely been as entertaining as it has been over the last couple of years.
I also applaud the way you have gone about your job. Never involved in petty squabbles with opposition managers, never pinning the blame on referees, taking the rap when you have been at fault. Considering the circumstances you have managed under, you have always conducted yourself with dignity. I also enjoyed the Q&A sessions with fans which you always came across as a brilliant character.
I have no doubt you will achieve much more success in your career, and I will join in with the no doubt generous applause you will receive at Wembley - a stage you have put us on and for that I will always be grateful.

Thanks Paul. You have given us a trip to Wembley and saved our club from oblivion. All the best for the future. Im sure you will come back to bite us in the arse in the future with another club ;)

Having heard so much about what used to go on behind the scenes out of the public eye, I can honestly say that you are a true Gentleman whose integrity will remain of the highest order and will always keep you gainfully employed in the world of football.

So many times you could have placed the blame for our failures elsewhere and where they truly belonged, but your dignity would not allow you to do that.

I am actually pleased for you that you personally will no longer have to be part of this circus that was once OUR football club and has acheived such a low standing amongst our peers.

Good luck, good wishes and thank you. :Worthy::Worthy::Worthy::Worthy::Worthy:

I can only echo what every other person on this thread has said really, and that is add my HUGE thank you for all of your efforts with this club, and for me personally, how much you will be missed.

I'd imagine it was a step into the unknown when we appointed you, and I have to say in amongst all the negativity at the time, and the fact you were taking over from arguably our most successful manager, I remember thinking at the time this was a very shrewd appointment... and I was right. OK, so we missed out on promotion last season by a whisker, but I am certain it was not for the lack of trying by you... Maybe it was just destined to be that way.

You've crtainly given me some excellent memories in that time - most of them away from RH it has to be said, but probably my favourite was the trip to Sixfields last season - not often we score 5 away from home, and it was a pleasure to be there and witness that.

As for this season, I truly believe, prior to us being decimated through injury, suspension and players returning to their parent clubs, we had a better squad than last season and a better chance of promotion - without that wretched luck, i fancy we'd be sitting pretty in the top 3 now, and none of this would have happened... As I say, maybe it was destined not to be.

You're a top man Paul, one who is full of integrity, honesty, principals and an undeniable will to win, and I only hope this isn't the end for you on the manager merry go round... I am sure another club will soon be benefitting from your undoubted management skills.

I've been a Blue for over 32 years now, and you will go down as one of my favourites during that time... Always had complete confidence that whatever problem came our way, you'd be able to sort it out, just like you would have done this time, given the chance.

If you do choose to lead us out at Wembley, then I for one will be incredibly proud to have you back as our manager again, even if only on loan for one day.

Thanks ever so much Paul, for everything you have done for this club, and good luck for the future.

Thank you Paul - I've nothing but admiration for you, and I really hope the team can pull a win out of the bag for you at Wembley. **** knows where SUFC goes from here, but I cant help but feel that Phil Brown ain't the answer.

Thanks you Paul for steering us to midtable in that first season, when by rights we should have been relegated. Thanks for leading us to a record breaking points total in your 2nd season that in any other year would have seen us promoted. Thanks for bringing in some fantastic players at a time when our name was mud. Thanks for getting us to our first ever Wembley final. Cheers Luggy

this x x good luck sir it seems to have been the one thing missing from the last two years (floodlights and injuries)

Unbelievable efforts from Mr Sturrock. Will easily be able to get a job if he wanted with far less agro then what he's had to deal with here.
Sensational thankyou from me .
One Paul Sturrock :Worthy:
