Those who have now got their wish, will now find out what it really means to have a wish come true !

Make the most out of our Wembley trip because few other managers could have accomplished so much over the past three seasons with their hands tied behind their back. Paul Sturrock has performed miracles given the embrago's, players not being paid , revolving CEO's and everything else that he has had to deal with it. Good luck for the future Paul !

The most ironic thing about all of this, is that Sturrock is the ONLY manager Ron has ever appointed from outside the club who has done a decent job.
Webby was a disaster second time round, spent a lot of money on very average players, and seemed more concerned with getting his son a game.
And let's remember, that Tilly only got the job by default. Starry-eyed Ron wanted Collymore, a big name, flash, with an impressive CV like Stewart Robson before him (ring any bells Mr Brown). But that never happened, Tilly was promoted from the youth office and everything fell into place.
As for this whole, we desperately need the new manager to assess the squad with only a few weeks of the season left baloney, please excuse my wry smile.
When Messrs Newman and Crown were sacked - with most of the squad out of contract at the end of the season, offering a much-needed clean-sweep of inherited, pea-hearted underachievers - our glorious leader went on holiday to the Bahamas, leaving directors to interview candidates such as Roy McFarland, before giving the job to Steve Wignall on his return from topping up the tan. He was never going to appoint somebody that impressed one of the boardroom patsies, and there was hardly any urgency back then.
I know Sturrock isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he has done a great job under very difficult circumstances, with his legacy a money-spinning Wembley trip to paper over some of the gaping chasm-like cracks in our busted, broken and empty coffers.
He has earned the right to walk away into the sunset in June when his contract runs out with a bit of pride intact.
This decision is a disgrace and I'm now awaiting the speech about doing an ill man a favour, as the pressure was taking its toll. Sorry, this has been another bad, bad day for our dying club!

I've sat down with him, listened and believed his ********, No more. Ive had business dealings with him, No more. The man only cares about himself!!! #MartinOut

As have I.

Totally agree.

Fan power wont oust him. But perhaps a creditor/s will....

It's also nice that this has yet again been done after the deadline for renewing your season ticket.

JUST like the Sunday when PS walked in.

Or is this just a coincidence?

Im with the hippy on this one,god how i wish i was clever like you Bernie.
If it is the tan man he should get us out of this crap league.

Hard to argue. Been saying exactly the same myself for last three weeks.

Indeed. Not massively surprised tbh, but the statement is spot on throughout and exactly as I suspected.

Not a fan of RM generally, but I agree with what he has said.

Included within the words was a rational explanation of the timing.

Yeah which I don't buy, wait 2 weeks, We go to wembley PS walks, new man in. No big drama, everyone has there dignity in tact, the new man can assess on the QT. however our ego maniac chairman wouldn't get the lime light doing it that way, would he?

I think it would have been harder to ratify his departure after the JPT if he'd won it. Too many fans would have been **** a hoop and hailing him as the greatest Southend manager ever! Best to part with him beforehand and everyone knows where they stand.

Such an evil way to look at the situation. Are you actually Ron Martin?

Paul Sturrock got us to Wembley. Surely this makes him one of our most successful managers?

Ron Martin is just a little evil pathetic bully. Such a great businessman, with all his ****ed businesses. What a great business decision.

Yep. He took us through three rounds against teams playing at least three yoofs or rezzies each time. Tilson got us to the final twice and promoted twice. I'm not saying Tilson is our best, but surely that ranks him above PS for starters.

I'm just saying he'd have had uproar if he'd sacked him after the JPT as there's too many muppets like you who think the competition is like the World Cup final, and not a just nice day at wembley for the club.

3 seasons in this dreadful league under Sturrock. Would you be crying if our new manager gets us promoted in his first season? I thought you were a positive type.

Master stroke RM

Shocked when I first heard the news terrible timing I thought .. read the club statement and various posts and I'm starting to think that this could work.
I think he was going at the end of the season, would we have played any better up to that date.. probably not, even the final I could see being a big let down, because our confidence would be shot.

Now, players will be trying their utmost to impress the new man or chance being part of a big clear out at the end of the season. If a manager was appointed at the end of the season the players would probably be kept on to prove themselves to him, this proving themselves starts now, just when we need it.
And come the final if PS takes charge for that game, wouldn't they want to give PS everything as it's his last game?

Hate to say it, it could be a master stroke from RM... when would that ever be said

Thank you Paul. You have been a good servant of Southend United. You have gone about the job quietly and with dignity.
I will judge you by the state of the club when you took over and where we are today. You deserve credit for stabalizing a "sinking ship" and getting us moving in the right direction. You are an experienced football man, and I'm sure will accept your fate in a professional manner. However, This should have been handled in a different way, you deserve that.

Thank you once again, from a life long shrimper. You will go down in my book as one of the most important managers in our club's history. The right man at a critical time.
