Thanks for getting us to Wembley and for stabilising us in that first campaign, but I feel it is the right time to go after failure for a second successive season.

I know about "freedom of opinion" but this is a thread specifically to thank Paul Sturrock for the amazing (IMO) job he has done. There are eight other threads where people can qualify that if they feel so inclined. Can't this thread be left to do what it says on the tin?

Thank you so much Paul! You will always hold a place in my heart! In the circumstances you have done a better job than most managers in football! Very underestimated! I hope you you find another job quickly!

Such an evil way to look at the situation. Are you actually Ron Martin?

Paul Sturrock got us to Wembley. Surely this makes him one of our most successful managers?

Ron Martin is just a little evil pathetic bully. Such a great businessman, with all his ****ed businesses. What a great business decision.

Nope, if he had promotion to go with getting to a final (the fact its at wembley is irrelevant, we would had played there 3 times under Tilly in just over a year) then yeah he would be up there cos tbh competition is pretty thin.

Although you could argue the situation he inherited and what he has achieved warrants him being considered.

Gutted he's gone - started with nothing barring 2 or 3 players and finished at Wembley in front of 30k shrimpers. Not bad for 3 years. Go and give those Aldershot floodlights a boot as they probably got u the sack.... best of luck Paul for the future....

If you want to sack him, fine*. Do it at the end of the season.

If you want to sack him and give the new man a few games*, fine. Do it in two weeks after Wembley.

Doing it now is ridiculous, it makes us look awful. We haven't got much, only our reputation. Now that's gone too.

* - I suspect that we'll only discover how good a job Sturrock did next season. Brown is a decent, experienced manager with two seasons PL experience. He's a big name for a 4th division club. But this is not an easy job. He'll have his work cut out.

** - A full pre-season is good enough for most new managers. I don't see how the gain of playing a handful of dead rubber L2 games with a squad of players who have all but checked their bags in for their holidays outweighs showing a bit of dignity.

Thank you Paul. You have been a good servant of Southend United. You have gone about the job quietly and with dignity.
I will judge you by the state of the club when you took over and where we are today. You deserve credit for stabalizing a "sinking ship" and getting us moving in the right direction. You are an experienced football man, and I'm sure will accept your fate in a professional manner. However, This should have been handled in a different way, you deserve that.

Thank you once again, from a life long shrimper. You will go down in my book as one of the most important manages in our club's history. The right man at a critical time.
Absolutely right. Echo that. Thanks for Rebuilding my club, Paul.

Thank you PS for everything you have done under the constraints you have had to deal with, we have seen some very good players during your 3 years.

All the best for the future, if the rumours are true down here on the South Coast Good Luck at Pompey

To be honest and put all sentiment to one side, if we win ur next two games and play well, it would be the new manager I would want to see at wembley not PS, sorry if that's harsh, but I want to see us lift the trophy and on current form the PS team won't do that.

One of the most respected and respectful managers in the game. Never slagged off refs like many a manager, never made excuse after excuse or was a sore loser. Accepted defeat graciously and kept a fairly low profile, never one to court the media like many of todays managers. Brought in some fantastic players- Corr, Hall, Mohsni, Clohessy, Cresswell, Phillips, Tomlin, Timlin, Soares. Although I agree with Ron's decision, I do feel sad at the loss to this club of one of the most decent men to ever work for our club, a man whos knowledge and love of the game was clear to see to all.

I personally don't care if we win the tin-pot trophy. Really, for me, it's all about getting to Wembley - I couldn't give two hoots about the JPT silverware. Seriously? Who's going to be impressed by it? Southend United, JPT winners 2012/2013.

What people will be impressed with is a fantastic gesture to a departing manager who has served us so well but perhaps run his course. THAT's the club I'm looking to be associated with and that's the memory of Wembley that I'll be looking for.

If we win as well, of course I'll be delighted!
