Apologies if this has been put up before, but I do feel its 'of the moment'. Saturday's guest of honour, plus the opening scorer's dad, both feature in a game that had everything (in fact Nelse looked quite sprightly).

Special prize to those who can name the commentator ;

I don't recognise the commentator... who was it?

One for you old people on here.
5 Autographs from 1970-71. Guess the players.

Was at a quiz night recently at the Essex Bowling club in Imperial Avenue. A fair number of the SUFC history books mention that Bob Jack our first manager was a pretty useful bowls player. So he was

As you would expect I wrote to Essex County Bowling Club to see if they were aware of Bob Jack and the SUFC link. This was the secretary's reply

Dear C’mon you Shrimpers
I love to hear about these sort of things - I collated all of our Club History as well as I could in recent years, so it's nice to hear more about someone like Bob.
A brief look at our honours boards show that he won at least 5 Club titles here, but somewhat surprisingly never the Club Singles itself. However he was the first ever winner of the Essex Singles in 1909, a title that I myself won for the first time 104 years later!
And I had no idea he once won the National Singles, an incredible achievement - he must have been an excellent player.
All the best Ed (club manager)

Saw some pics of the Stadium on FB earlier - prompted me to check in with Eric Marsden, our oldest player still alive and just turned 95 (spoke to his neighbour this morning). Eric is ok but mostly confined to bed in a care home - his wife visits him most days. Will try and think of something to send to him (we sent him the original prog of his SUFC home debut in 1952 last year). Eric is the only former player still alive who played for us at the old Stadium ground.
Eric was circa 20th at last time of counting on the oldest footballers still alive - I've asked for an update on that and will share when I get it
