Noel Hunt: Why I chose to join Southend United

His fitness will come. His class was clear in the second half against Leyton O. Seems mrsblue always looks on the negative aspect of almost everything.

Brown is to be congratulated in the improvement his signings have made to the team. I hope he waits until the right player in his mind is available and does not rush to make up numbers. Slow, but sure is better.

In all fairness all the new signings on paper would suggest an improvement, time will tell whether this is factual or not. I'm very pleased with all 3 but we still need two more at least

No doubt about his talent,my only concern is his fitness !
I don't think mrsblue ever said she would not back a signing. The real deal is this.... Every player knows how important a pre season is, this guy has missed his, it's a fact.

This will put him back quite a few months, there is genuine fitness doubts.

he has been training with Ipswich all pre season, the part he has missed is playing games. He looked sharp Sunday apparently so don't think it will take him long to gain match fitness.

He'll be fine. Phil Brown will use him for 60/70 minutes when he first starts, and build up from there. Probably well before Chistmas, he will be fully fit. This player is a class act, he will have you out of your seats, even the doubters.

Whilst I agree he's probably behind in his match fitness, how do you work out it will put him back "quite a few months" when the rest of the squad have only been back in training for one?

Or are you talking about his match sharpness rather than his actual fitness?

In Kev29s world, pre-season is 6 months. It's either that or, just like his alter-ego Mrsblue, he's plucking figures from thin air!

Not bad then is it. Not played since February and was still the best player on the pitch against Orient. Surely even you can see the positives in that..................................Maybe not.[/QUOTE

Hunt is a good player and if he can maintain his fitness he will be decent for us,some of you think he will be dominating game after game,i think league one opposition will be targeting Noel, then we shall see how fit he is!

Yes but not playing and not training are two very different things. Kev has said he's had no pre-season training setting him back months which is wholly inaccurate!
rubbish, there is nothin like match fitness....this combined with no pre season.... Will set him back months. You are splitting hairs... Not played/no pre season... It's the only words you need to know.

yes he is a good player.

Hate the 'match fitness' myth. Sports Science studies have proved constantly there is no such thing as 'match fitness'. Just one example below:

http://www.skillfulcoach.com/sport-science/

Which is why I prefer the term match sharpness. You can be the fittest player in the world, but if you haven't been on a pitch and played a competitive match you won't be as sharp, i.e. your skills will be rusty.

That is also why I asked Kev29 why he reckons he's months behind. From a physical fitness side he's probably not. From a match sharpness side he himself admits he is rusty. However, I would argue a player of his calibre will be able to improve his match sharpness in far less that Kev29's "quite a few months".

That is indeed one of the games greatest mysteries.

For the record I'm a Colchester fan. I think Southend have a better first team squad than us this season, but obviously I think our academy system is far superior to the majority of Lge 1.

Hunt is a coup, your first team squad looks very solid as a result of signings like him. I was just wondering if you can actually afford him though. I know Col U were overspending a few years back and it didn't really work out.
