Lets also be clear, this is purely Rangers fault. He is a disgrace to the footballing profession and does not deserve another chance even at semi-pro level.

It's not just Ranger's fault. It's surely no coincidence that this comes less than 24 hours after news of yet another player being convicted in court.

That's not to say Ranger has anyone but himself to blame.

And the club has nobody to blame but themselves. This was entirely predictable, if anything the surprise was it took so long.

Echoes of Mohsni and the downfall of Sturrock. Let's hope Brown doesn't have such an injury crisis that forces him to recall Ranger.

Brilliant!

That's my christmas present ruined. Anyone know if the club will replace my shirt? Got an away shirt with Ranger on the back.

Would you accept a 'Tes Bramble is innocent' car sticker in exchange?

I am honest enough to admit that I have never been a fan of Nile Ranger. He came with so much baggage, just look at his career and life issues over the past 10 years or so.
Why on earth Ron Martin gave him a 3 year contract simply beggars belief. The idea of selling Ranger for a decent profit after a season of good form and scoring a few goals is simply laughable. His track record both on and off the field endorses that view.

The rest of course is pure speculation until Brown and/or Martin make any public statement. And whether or not this will affect the team in a positive way, we'll have to see. But I believe this could be a major turning point in Blues' season.

Hold on to it as it might become infamously valuable in the future.

We were able to release him at any time as part of a clause which makes the 3 year contract seem a lot more reasonable. I agree with you on the effect on the team though, can't have been good for morale to see him turning up late for training then starting ahead of Fortune who runs his heart out every game (and is a better player imo). Hopefully it's a springboard for a bit of form!

Ron has obviously covered himself in the contract so it won't cost the club. Yes it was always an outside bet but the 3 year deal was also a carrot for Nile to make something of himself. If and we all knew it was a big if even before the police charged him with fraud, he had played like he did in our run before Christmas last year. Then someone would have paid good money for him.

Yes our horse didn't come in but if you get your money back that's not a bad way to gamble.

Can't bring myself to say "not surprised" or "I told you so" Just sad all around. Surely he has no future in the game now. Will not blame the club. They took a big gamble, like they've done on many players over the years. Some pay off, some don't. I've always seen the potential ability in Ranger when I've seen him play. Just a waste for him and the club.

There's a difference between being out of form and not bothering to get out of bed for training. Anton is a professional and to compare him with Ranger is silly. Is Anton our new pantomime villain now? Shame as he started very well against Shrews before he came off.

Anton loves any excuse not to train

To be fair, the 3 year deal isn't that big a thing if we could (and let's hope we can as we have!) sack him midway.

The rest of your post is spot on. What happened to Ron's promises of extensive DD on all signings?

Sadly, despite what I believe to be the best efforts of the staff of Southend United, the Nile Ranger leopard has failed to change his spots. Like Barnsley and Blackpool, we have given him the opportunity and encouragement to turn his life around and resurrect his career but he has failed to respond in the way we would have liked. I posted on this forum, when we were on the point of signing him, a comment from my respected Barnsley supporter friend that Ranger was the biggest waste of space ever to pull on a Barnsley shirt. I think we may look back and make a similar comment about his time at Southend.

I fear for the young man's future but there comes a point where one has to say "enough is enough" for the sake of Southend United and all involved with the Club.

Have to disagree. It did cost the cost the Club, probably more than his wages.

"Our horse" strolled out of the stalls, didn't make a serious attempt to run and never looked like completing the course.
That IMHO is a bad way to gamble, because you don't get a run for your money and no chance of getting it back.

Understand where you're coming from, but my point is why give a player with that kind of reputation a 3-year deal? Moreover, what effect does that have on the rest of the playing squad?

I must admit that I was alarmed that none of the players seemed to want to talk to him before the Shrewsbury game kicked of not least Cox who let's face it is his strike partner. A player recently when asked said 3 things. Firstly that all the players believed he had a lot of talent and should be playing higher if he knuckled down, secondly he's had a terrible upbringing and thirdly that if he hadn't taken any notice of Alan Shearer he was not going to take any notice of the players at the club.
For me it's a shame. I think the future for Nile is endless spells with her majesty. What a chronic waste. Still no one at the club can say they did not do al they could.

Hopefully morale will improve and this could maybe galvanise the squad. I cant imagine good professionals like White and Lenny have been too impressed with Ranger.

Bizarre character. As recent as yesterday he was putting up videos of his "highlights' (if you can call them that) in recent games. Its a see ya from me.

He was always going to be a sensation or a disaster. Sadly, the latter.
