FWIW I'd like us to sign Jon Parkin a big lump who is more skillful than given credit for. However I'd say he's a bit too Northern and also he's signed for Fleetwood.

I've always liked Akinfenwa, particularly when he was at Swansea.

As another thought what's Rory Fallon up to these days?

I enjoy watching Akinfenwa but he is not the solution to our striker issues or a frontal hub to build an attack around of we want to progress and stay out of this league. Our "success" yesterday was built on keeping possession and passing, playing the channels and getting the ball across the goal mouth. A bit more target practice and some of the, still too many, wide attempts will turn draws into wins. Defense is still shakey under pressure; often because we are indecisive and Belford doesn't command his 6 yrds. Prosser and Martin teamed up well and that stopped a lot of the hoofing as Martin used the flanks in a similar way that Hall has on the right previously. Tomlin works but still we await some bite. If we get Ade then we are going to hoof & hoof some more, no thanks.

I'd just like to add for those who complained about the style of play last season (of which I freely admit I was one despite acknowledging that it did get results which was the most important thing) I really do feel that with a striker like AA the direct game would become far more effective. With the ball "sticking" up front a lot more often the heavily-criticised style from last year wouldn't look anywhere near as ugly, therefore I don't think it would attract as much derision as before should AA or a very similarly effective striker sign this week.

Akinfenwa is a good forward, but he's not a target man is he?
Wasn't there some interest in Bradford's James Hanson?

I am going to get abuse for saying this but waht about Blair Sturrock? although not well built for a target man, I always felt he used to hold the ball up quite well for someone of his size. Cheap wages, know the SUFC setup and the manager etc, could sign a rolling contract until/if Corr gets match fit.

No. Simply not Good Enough. Actually Blair was quite tall, around the 5-11/6-0 region, if you stoop up close to him but your right not strong enough to be an out and out targetman. Besides last I heard he's working in Canada now but not as a footballer.

I have been to the gym with Blair countless times so i have been around him in public (and yoga ), and what everyone has to remember is , he is a very very intelligent man.

so when most football players wouldn't be able to find a good job unrelated to football . Blair is more than capable of finding a decent paying job away from the sport .

Yes You are right . I wasn't knocking him in any way just that I think he's not a footballer anymore. Nice guy too and wish him well. But I think its fair to say he wasn't the best forward to pull on a blue shirt.

If we signed akinfenwa I would be over the moon! Have wanted to sign him for years.

I think we've been guilty of trying to play too much football at times this season. The problem is, when you don't have players capable of slick, incisive passing, the tempo goes and it gives defenders time to get behind the ball. Yesterday showed we are trying to pass the ball but at times it was frustrating to watch. The secret to our success last year (away especially) was getting the ball into Dickinson early then the midfield players being quick to support and get around him. At the moment, the ball just isn't sticking up there.

I'd love us to play creative, stylish and deadly passing football and score lots of goals but we're in League Two with a squad of distinctly average players. It's not going to happen.

For what it's worth, Northampton's style is far, far more 'direct' than anything I've seen under Sturrock.

Maybe Akinfenwa doesn't want to be in a relegation battle again? Would love him to move to Southend, and maybe help us go up?
