Most talented Blues player you've ever seen

Firmani is probably the most famous player who has ever played for Southend. Was a legend in both England and Italy.

01. Stan Collymore - Can't say enough good things about him. He was simply stunning. Best memory was his performance in an FA Cup tie away at Huddersfield when he scored both goals in a 2-1 win, his second goal was genius.

02. Rick Otto - Brilliant, amazing and sometimes dare I say awful, Otto was an incredible talent. Best memory is 'that' goal at Barnsley  Sadly my last memory of Otto is when he decided to sit with Southend fans in an away match at Derby shortly after he had followed Fry to Birmingham. He left at half time as the abuse was too much for him. :o

03. Richards Cadette - Has no-one mentioned him yet??? 104 appearances 56 goals. A great finisher with pace to burn. Best moment, the 4 he scored on his unforgettable debut.

04. Freddy Eastwood - I can't add to what been said before. A player who could come up with something when you need it. Wolves are killing his game. Best moments His debut hat-trick and the even better one at Chesterfield whne he decided to win the game for us on his own!!.

05. Mike Marsh - What a great player he was. Did he ever give the ball away? Best moment the goal at home against Ipswich. Truly stunning.

Didn't bother saying it as most people here probably hadn't heard of him but Eddie Firmani was pure class. He joined us at the end of his career in mid 60's but had more skill than most we have seen at the Hall. Saw him back heel into goal from a corner and tight angle and another time when a keeper gave a short goal kick he just hit it first time back into the net from 30 yards. A real crowd pleaser.

dont assume its all kids and newbys on here, wot about when firmani took the micky out off the first black player i saw at blues think his name was ces podd bradford first match in the fourth.

Stanley - I won't repeat whats already been said many times before. A genuine putter of bums on seats player
Colin Morris - The best ever winger here IMO. I was gutted when he left, even for Spence
Otto - In a word, Quality! Second best winger at RH
Anton Otulakowski - A magic man. I even got to play for him at Trinity many years a go. In training you could see his class. I even saved a penalty of his!!
Gary Nelson - Class left foot & a brilliant player. He still has class to this day, playing in the local Veterans league. An experience to play against him!

Stan
Peter Taylor
Anto Otulakowski
Colin Morris
Chico Hamiltion
Chrissy P

All players on the up

Players who were great before they came to us
Ronnie Whelan
Mike Marsh
Eddie Clayton
Eddie firmani
And probably the best of the lot (but before all bar cricko's time ) david Jack
(on his day the most expensive player in the world )

Whelan and Firmani were certainly great stars before they joined and, to a lesser extent, Marsh. I presume Jack was too.

But Eddie Clayton was a bit part player at Spurs averaging less than 10 games per season whilst he was there. He understudied for John White in the double winning side and was a reserve for the 67 Cup Final.

Surely you're talking about the wrong Whelan? Unless I grossly misinterpreted things, all the praise in this thread was for the footballing genius of Ronnie rather than Phil....

Note to self, must improve jokes.

Not exactly a new note that!
