Seriously ?

That's rather pessimistic!

We have 35 points with 20 games to go. Last season 45 points would have been enough to stay up and Im sure we can muster 15 points out of the next 60.

We have won 5 games out of our last 8, we may not get promoted but there is no chance we will end up in the bottom two, so relax :)

i'll relax when i know where staying up :)
everything is looking very rosy at the mo, but 4 games ago it was all very negative!
im pretty sure we'll stay up, especially if we can play our first 11 for the remaining games, but despite all the **** that hit the fan last season, up until the very end i thought we'd stay up!
must admit tho ive started daydreaming of a play off tournee'

I might be alone in saying this but i never for one minute thought we would go down and those thoughts are now justified. Ive said numerous times on here that wenger and fergie would have struggled under the circumstances that PS came into. What i believed was with the signings of the likes of barker, easton, corr, potential of hall, clohessy etc we have had the core of a good side. But it takes time to gel and PS said this himself. He has tried many different formations, tactics players in and out of position, but now with a settled side and players like gilbert, easton looking much fitter we are now gaining some consistency. Even the home games vs cheltenham and chesterfield, all bar a couple of mistakes in each we played ok. look at the teams we have beaten this season especially away from home proves that this team can do well. yes we still need to improve but the midfield is starting to tick, grant, ferdinand, easton and hall have really stepped up the last few weeks, corr and sturrock work well and the defence has now looked solid and settled. For what its worth moshni should not play upfront, yesterday mcleod never had a sniff 2nd half and corr did well up front. tuesday these two should play in their rightful positions. the future looks far more promising and i see no reason that if we can pick up 3, 4 or 6 points this week then we will be in avery strong position to puch for the top 7, only 8 points off 4th place you know. UTB

I think it's vitally important for the Club to hold onto Moshni for now. Unless selling him is the only way to plug the cashflow deficit for a few months then he needs to stay. For the first time in 18 months things are looking slightly upwards for the Club. but the cloud of nagativity which has covered this club for so long hasn't been completely dispelled. The fans love Mohsni and flogging him on the cheap could potentially bring it back.

I don't think we NEED to sell. We have enough funds in place for this season (selling Mohsni at a massive profit was not in the budget!) and good business as far as Mohsni is concerned says do business in the summer. For once a fire sale not necessary so we can do what other clubs do an max out on what we get by selling at the right time and signalling to buyers that we have no need to do business on the cheap.

Bit of a change from your post on 16 September 2010 when Mohsni's contract was extended:

What a difference 4 months makes!

The word from a contact at a Prem team is the PS/SUFC have been pro-active in getting interest in Mohsni...

Discussed this with my dad and we suspected that may have been the case, because for the Sky Sports website to list so many clubs suggests we provided the information of which clubs have been watching him regularly.

Not really. Signing him up to a long contract on the back of two or three good games was premature in light of the problems that players on long contracts had just caused us.

If you wanted to trip me up on a post I'd made about Mohsni, I'm pretty sure you can find some from the aftermath of his red card against Barnet or his horror show against Northampton.

We need Mohsni more than the money at the moment . He has brought in a new life to the name Southend united nearly every supporter loves his style of play . A player we have long craved for. Its good to see a player who only wants to play football and doesnt seem to have a money grabing Agent behind him . Leave the man alone to do his job thats what i say lets not drive him away . I am sure better thing are beconing for him later in his footballing life .

Not really. Not signing players like Gower and Barnard on longer contracts caused far more problems.

Letting valuable players on longer contracts walk away free rather than realising their value because they hadn't been paid caused far more problems.

.............and it wasn't a horor show against Northampton..........he just gave 2 goals away - he didn't do it deliberately but he is years behind others in his development

Our problems last season were cashflow problems caused by having players on contracts signed two or three years before when money was less of an issue. Had we had a sensible contract policy and had players on one or two year deals then we wouldn't have had those contracts acting as an anchor dragging us down and would have had a wagebill more in line with the ever-decreasing size of Ron Martin's pockets.

That means sometimes losing players on free transfers. It happens. Gower had a long contract and didn't want to stay. Barnard had a long contract and didn't want to stay. It's the nature of lower league football. We lost Chris Powell and Simon Royce the same way. It happens.

Of course he didn't make his mistakes at Northampton deliberately. I doubt any player we've had has made mistakes deliberately. I'm not sure what point you're making, to be honest.

Completely agree with Beefy, losing good players on a free when their contract ends is part of the parcel of football. It happens. We should be very careful about extending contracts.

We now seem to have a policy of extending contracts by a year - with the year optional in our favour. This is smart in the current bosman era but only recently seems to have caught on

Certainly shouldn't give one to Soares.

Point one: Our problems last season were cashflow problems caused by having players on contracts signed two or three years before when money was less of an issue. Our cashflow problems run so much deeper than a few players who were on longer contracts.

Point two: If decent players on longer cotracts needed to be shifted why didn't we shift them for cash when we saw the problem coming from our cash flow projections?

Point three: Mohsni was always likely to be worth a punt - he's a raw talent.......and we should give longer contracts to the better younger players if we believe that they will become valuable..

Point four: Any extended deal for Mohsni in September was likely to have been at a very reasonable wage.

Point four: Emotive tems like 'horror show' don't improve your argument - he had a poor game and he'll have some more.............and he'll probably be sent off again - Shrewsbury away anyone?

Point five: Mohsni is a raw talent and our club should ensure that it is nurtured and we make some money when he moves on.

Does that help?
