Migrant "children" from Calais

Yeah, you mean one refugee in the UK leads to nine more - in the UK, but not the rest of the world, for some reason.

Young men in Europe - because you way up the odds of the various dangers. Young men in a warzone are likely to be conscripted against their will by government forces, rebels or ISIS. Babies are babies so mothers keep them close despite the chances of the family unit being bombed. Daughters travelling alone are likely to be raped so mothers keep them close despite the chances of the family unit being bombed. If you can scrape together the funds to pay traffickers for one family member to get out you send your eldest son - it's the logical thing to do.

Propaganda is the word.

Assume if Russia invaded the UK and over 1 million young male Brits legged it to wherever, they would be branded cowards or worse.

Whilst having much smaller area in which to place them I would suspect. There are bigger countries with much more space to take the kind of numbers.

What concerns me - and if it makes me selfish, then so be it - is that the NHS which my generation were brought up to believe was the best in the world, and our Welfare system, which was the envy of so many, are now being so abused that we, and those who come after us, are not going to have the provision that we thought we would be entitled to in our lifetimes. It's all at risk.

We can't afford to keep dishing out money and health services in the way we are, people who were born and have contributed here are being disadvantaged and that simply can't be right.

Ring fence the NHS and the Welfare budget and make them for UK citizens (and countries with whom we have specific agreements, in the case of the NHS) and set up separate budgets for dealing with the cost of immigration. Don't deplete the NHS and Welfare budgets so that the pot is empty for those people who should be entitled.

Well said OBL.

Look at Spain they have an entire city which is empty, nice weather yet the migrants swerve Spain because the hand outs are zero and probably the Spanish would be up in arms about mass immigration.

We are a tiny island bursting at the seams, services are buckling under the strain,we just cannot take more and more people.

With one of the first 'child' migrants now proved to be 22 (Sunday Times) by looking at his online dating profile and the fact that he attended Kabul university 3 years ago. How would you suggest we deal with that problem ?. Deportation would be the simple and by the way legal option but I doubt you would want that.

His 'uncle' blames the mix up on the Afghan calendar, easy mistake and it now appears at least 4 others can't count. They are of course not even from Syria because a genuine refugee is lucky to have the clothes they walk in let alone money for some migrant smuggling and a journey to Calais
Do you put your real age on your dating profiles? No one else does - you need to learn to play the game.

If you want to find out if someone is Syrian don't look at the quality of their clothes, talk to them - in Syrian. If they answer in Syrian then that is a good start point.

The interesting thing with Sweden of course is that whilst they have taken in large numbers, they are also looking to deport a significant amount back.

In terms of the Uk's approach... for every stat that says we have taken less than others have, we have also taken in more than lots of other Countries.

Coming back to Calais, this is a mess that the French and ourselves have let get out of hand over many years.
Shambles in Calais from the French and UK? Sure is.
Unfortunately the Home Office was run by Theresa May for the last 6 years and she has not set them up to be capable when called upon.

Spain have a very similar amount of Syrians as UK do.
Services are bursting at the seems because of austerity and underfunding not because there are 10,000 Syrians here.

Not Syrians specifically, no, but immigrants and people who should not have any entitlement. There's been a lot of talk this week about the NHS not billing people who should have paid and that's the problem.

Unlike you to be so spineless and try and weasel out of a question. Still at least we know why you have to use online dating sites.

sure they should bill people that should be paying - but they just don't have the volume of admin staff to police that kind of thing. In an article by Nick Cohen today he mentions May not being able to give any figures for 'health tourism' and that the Royal College of GPs had stated that 'the problem barely existed'.

A bit unnecessary - I've met ***, and drunk with him and been to a match with him. Just because people have different politics doesn't mean we can't get on.

We have taken in a tiny amount of Syrian refugees. Some taken in as under 18 look over 18. If they are then there are various issues stemming from that but due to the low figures we have taken in that should be easily dealt with.

One of the main reporters at The Sun used on herself the age estimating technology that they had used on the 14 refugees that had arrived the week the story blew up - it put her age as 78, she is 54.

What are you on about now?
You said at least we know why I would have to use dating sites. I asked you why that is. Why is that then?

Now we are into your other tactic...Playing dumb. Why not answer the question.

Lorry driver just the other day discovered several migrants in his Lorry .

According to the company..the Lorry was inspected not once but twice..subjected to X-ray and oxygen test....either both methods failed or they were allowed entry.

The nhs is just one of many facets of UK society that is today facing difficulties, throw in social care, unaffordability of housing, lack of school places etc and it all makes for grim reading.

Austerity, lack of funding and years of cuts have undoubtedly played their part too.

Add to this a mass movement of people , the like of which we have never seen ( all moving for a myriad of reasons)....and our ability to cope must surely come into question.

At the start of this thread, there was a premise that nobody from Calais should seek to exploit a system, by pretending to be an age that they are not.....and only the most morally bankrupt of posters on here can think that this practice is ok or understandable.

Having said that do we want to be a society that turns it's back on those in need?

My own view is we have already done so....

As I clearly stated - if you are using dating websites to work out how old someone is then your methodology is the problem - people lie on dating websites.

When I said that if an over 18 is found to be claiming to be under 18 is easily dealt with I meant that you treat them as an over 18 - so no access to schooling and schemes that are for under 18's.

You are focussing on a tiny minuscule amount of the refugees which is exactly what the Sun and Mail want you to do. You are then taking a tiny element of one of numerous posts and thinking you have found an Achilles heal. If you find out someone is not a child then don't treat them like a child.

It turns out I am not a child either, so maybe try to stop acting like I am?
