Migrant "children" from Calais

Well would you believe it !

Charities and the BBC BANG ON ABOUT "the children"....there they were in view playing football and milling around totalling 100 maybe.....no toddlers...no small kids....just big dudes.
Teenagers that pass the time playing football instead of hanging out with toddlers - how very dare they.

Having watched several charity spokespeople trot out the same old bilge..."the children are frightened and maybe in danger"......my view some of these charity crowd should be banned from the TV....in fact this constant drip drip effect of the ME ,Calais,Syria is driving me and others nutty:winking:

It does seem to have sent you nutty if seeing bored teenagers playing football now offends you - not long ago that was the main thing you were looking to promote.

France and UK have had a secret agreement.....UK takes 500 and France shut the camp....the 500 is obviously no questions asked IMO .

Give it a few months and the charade can begin again.

Mixed messages there - is it a secret deal or in your opinion?
If it is a secret how come you are party to this information?

What are the percentages for the other EU countries taking their fair share? Genuine question chaps, I'm just interested to know.
Wikipedia has the following as intake of Syrian refugees (there are a number of counties that come between Sweden and UK in terms of volume of intake but I figured this was enough for a comparison of the 'burden':

Turkey 2.7 million
Iraq 2 million
Lebanon 1.5 million
Jordan 1.3 million
Germany 0.6 million
Greece 0.5 million
Saudi 0.4 million
Macedonia 0.4 million
Serbia 0.3 million
Sweden 0.1 million
UK 0.01 million

That was just Wikipedia, other sites I found were a bit bogged down in detail if you just want headline figures. Turkey with 2,700,000 Syrian refugees are probably not going to have much data on ages. Whilst the ages are relevant in terms of correct provision here I think it was largely just a way of certain sections of the media having a way of painting the refugee process in a bad light. At that time we had a new influx of 14 Syrians in that week and by casting doubt on the 14 it deflected that our contribution is estimated to be 10,000 while Turkey are coping with 2.7 million. I assume the potentially overage under 18's was just in that initial few as the media has gone quiet on it since.

Be fair ***,

The public were informed children would be coming into the UK...not entirely true, was it!......nobody know's who has actually come here, cloak and dagger secrecy which makes the average person smell a rat.

We have taken in a tiny amount of Syrian refugees. Some taken in as under 18 look over 18. If they are then there are various issues stemming from that but due to the low figures we have taken in that should be easily dealt with.

One of the main reporters at The Sun used on herself the age estimating technology that they had used on the 14 refugees that had arrived the week the story blew up - it put her age as 78, she is 54.

The UK government ignored EU law....the migrants did the same.....you can bet migrants will be telling others "you too can get to the UK,get to Calais and everything will be ok".....maybe activists will too.

Very messy.

the seek asylum in the first safe country you arrive in you mean? We are not taking in refugees because of any law we are taking in 10,000 as a token gesture at sharing the 'burden'. There are 8 million Syrians displaced in Turkey / Iraq / Lebanon / Jordan so it hardly seems Calais is a magnet. Sweden has taken ten times the number we have - maybe you are getting Calais and Stockholm mixed up.

Ahh Sweden the country who have banned every criminal court case from revealing the ethnicity of the perpetrators ..wonder why?

Why not take migrants from camps in Syria then?....lets be honest the overwhelming male majority of the jungle is designed for one purpose...once here they can send for mum dad sisters brothers ,the 10,000 could easily become 100,000 in the blink of an eye.

The interesting thing with Sweden of course is that whilst they have taken in large numbers, they are also looking to deport a significant amount back.

In terms of the Uk's approach... for every stat that says we have taken less than others have, we have also taken in more than lots of other Countries.

Coming back to Calais, this is a mess that the French and ourselves have let get out of hand over many years.

So by your logic - in the blink of an eye the Syrians in Turkey become 27 million, Iraq 20 million, Lebanon 15 million - are there even enough Syrians in Syria to meet your assumption that one Syrian refugee becomes 10....in the blink of an eye?

No you know exactly what I mean,I think ?

Why do you think the migrant march across Europe was mainly young blokes?

Yeah, you mean one refugee in the UK leads to nine more - in the UK, but not the rest of the world, for some reason.

Young men in Europe - because you way up the odds of the various dangers. Young men in a warzone are likely to be conscripted against their will by government forces, rebels or ISIS. Babies are babies so mothers keep them close despite the chances of the family unit being bombed. Daughters travelling alone are likely to be raped so mothers keep them close despite the chances of the family unit being bombed. If you can scrape together the funds to pay traffickers for one family member to get out you send your eldest son - it's the logical thing to do.

With one of the first 'child' migrants now proved to be 22 (Sunday Times) by looking at his online dating profile and the fact that he attended Kabul university 3 years ago. How would you suggest we deal with that problem ?. Deportation would be the simple and by the way legal option but I doubt you would want that.

His 'uncle' blames the mix up on the Afghan calendar, easy mistake and it now appears at least 4 others can't count. They are of course not even from Syria because a genuine refugee is lucky to have the clothes they walk in let alone money for some migrant smuggling and a journey to Calais

Whilst having much smaller area in which to place them I would suspect. There are bigger countries with much more space to take the kind of numbers.

What concerns me - and if it makes me selfish, then so be it - is that the NHS which my generation were brought up to believe was the best in the world, and our Welfare system, which was the envy of so many, are now being so abused that we, and those who come after us, are not going to have the provision that we thought we would be entitled to in our lifetimes. It's all at risk.

We can't afford to keep dishing out money and health services in the way we are, people who were born and have contributed here are being disadvantaged and that simply can't be right.

Ring fence the NHS and the Welfare budget and make them for UK citizens (and countries with whom we have specific agreements, in the case of the NHS) and set up separate budgets for dealing with the cost of immigration. Don't deplete the NHS and Welfare budgets so that the pot is empty for those people who should be entitled.
