Mark Gower??

If he does go then I certainly wouldn't hold it against him - it's a very different situation from the assumed Nicky Bailey one. Wouldn't want him to but would understand reasons.

So, his contract expires end of June?

I don't remember hearing that we were trying to extend his contract last year? Anyone else? It may have happened but I don't recall hearing much about it.

If we didn't, why not? So, he'll be off on a free then?

Sounds like a missed opportunity...

We have offered him a new contract, its upto him if he wants to stay here or go to Swansea. i can't understand why we let it almost run out!?!

I understand that we have offered him a new contract.

I was thinking about why we didn't begin negotiations this time last year, knowing that there was one year left to run on the contract at that time.

If we'd tied him to an extension and then sold him, we could have got something out of it, surely?

We don't know what was agreed between the player and club. Maybe it was agreed that he would stay with us last season and hope we would go back up with the agreement that if we didn't the club would try to keep him but would understand if he wanted to go to a CCC side at the end of the season. They wouldn't let him run his contract down for no reason.

If I was massively in the know at Southend and knew we'd be signing, say, Jason Scotland from them, I'd be on there to let them know and see what their opinions of the guy was.

I've got everything crossed hoping his just winding us up, but I do think Gower will be playing at Swansea next season.

Thanks,i'm not hear to rub your noses in it lads its just the rumor that is going around down here i only came on here to see if it was true and what sort and how good a player he is because you guys get to see him wk in wk out.

Don't worry about it we would do the same thing. On his day he can be great but he has a bit of back trouble now and again and then he his just about average. Not too happy about tackling either but what winger is. He's there to get the ball over/in not to be a Roy Keane.

His the perfect replacement for Robinson!

If he adapts to your lot he will do very well for you. He will get you around the 8-10 goals a season mark and his record with us has been 8, 6, 6, 10 and 9 according to our website, but that doesn't include LDV matches.

He plays on our left hand side and all our attacking play goes through him, equally comfortable taking the ball on his left or right foot. His crossing isn't brilliant, but he does like to get the ball in. Could also see him playing off a big striker like Scotland if required.

Like any winger, if his on form his a match winner, he has that X factor to make things happen, he can turn a game on its head with a pass, cross or goal. If his not on form, he doesn't go hiding but his a bit of a passenger in that respect.

I'm praying he doesn't go, but if he does, if he comes up against us I think he'd get a standing ovation from everyone. Our most technically gifted player at the moment IMO.

You've already told us it is true, that he's accepted terms and in 2 wks he'll be off!
I'm touched by your genourosity and willingness not to rub our noses in it pal.

A decent fan would not go gossiping or bragging on another club's site.

Can't remember us nipping over to Jack's Army or whatever it's called and saying we were in talks with Trundle at the time, with respect sir.

We've never spoken to Trundle!!

Gower has been offered a deal with us which he has accepted he will be down to sign the contract soon as he get back from holidays so it will all be tied up within the next 2wks lads..

When i got home tonight i picked up my local Echo newspaper and what did i read? -Tilson does not expect the winger to sign for the Welshmen. It then quotes Tilly..."You never know what's going to happen but i would be suprised if Mark would want to move all the way there at this stage of his career".
Then i got thinking....but Swansea Jack told us without doubt he'd be going didn't he?

Now i've been a staunch Gower backer since our low,low days in the depths of L2.I've backed his name when others in the stands were slagging and i've defended him under provacation when he suffered his back injury. He's one of my favourite players and i think he makes the team tick when Tilly plays the system he does.
Just watching the Port Vale game at the end of the season just showed how much the team missed Gower when he's not there and when he came off the bench the change was startling.
It's gonna take a good player to replace him folks,so don't assume he's going somewhere that maybe he's not after all, after all-if we've offered him a decent contract then all this talk is unsettling. It certainly is for me,i want him to stay and i don't take kindly to other fans coming on here telling me otherwise ever so matter-of-factly.

I'm sure you all understand:)

agree life goes on.

Radical mood to-day. Prepared for the flack as I know a lot of others think the sun shines from DG rear end.

Lets have the ba**s to transfer list & sell Gower, who has not committed himself & let Swansea waste their money on a non-tackling in & out player who can be occasionally brilliant but not consistent enough for me and has significant stamina failing IMO.

Hang on to Foran go until situation with DG has been resolved unless Aberdeen up the ante to an offer that cannot be refused.
