Mark Gower??

I think it confirms that Tilly by allowing Gower to leave will means he is going to adopt a similar formation and style of play that Rovers have played this season, he is very open in his admiration of SOD, so its no surprise he has allowed Gower to leave, there is no need of him next season.

Oh yeah, Tilson is such a big fan of Sean O'Dismal that he is willing to let go one of our best players just so we can play according to- or at least as close to as is humanly possible- the world-renowned Doncaster 'model' which as far as I can make out is to cunningly stifle the midfield with five players and play a big lump up front on his own cos all your other strikers are pony or psychopaths. Apparently Tilson, despite winnig two promotions, getting to two cup finals, the play-offs and league cup quarter final is so keen to mimic the Doncaster 'template' pioneered by O'Driscoll that he is going to instruct Southend fans to sit in silence throughout the entirety of each match and try to come over like a smug, sanctimonious trendy young vicar in TV interviews.

Possibly the best post of the year.

I mean that!

Actually he is, if you have listened to his comments and read what he has said, Tilson said Rovers were the best footballing side in L1, and wanted them to gain promotion, which didn't go down well with L**ds.
After the Final SOD said you can't standstill in football, Tilly has had success but wants more, why not copy a model that has been successful and use it yourself? there is nothing wrong with that. Thorughout the season SOD has changed and fine tuned his system which worked, hence Rovers in the CCC, I'm sure he will adapt it again for the new challenges in the CCC.
Regarding Gower, he is apparently in talks with Swansea, so his future at RH will be in doubt.

He is in the US at the moment so the phone bill must be high!!

I got the info from a Swans fan, so it has to be considered as 2nd hand knowledge, perhaps he has gone away to think through the offers he has had, and return and make a decision, just a guess.

I find that hard to believe as he is a Leeds fan

Have some green NZ. Post of the week.

Forget the negative comments you have been receiving, I have just returned from abroad and watched the 2nd leg which I had recorded. Unless the camera was lying we were played off the park by Donny and whether it was one of those nights when everthing came off it doesn't matter the football you played was very impressive. We were also lucky to beat you at RH earlier in the season and Tilly is nothing if not honest. SOD had Rovers better equipped to play our style of football. 5-1 is not a lucky result. Good luck next season, hope to see you the year after.

Gonna be contraversial here and say i would bite someones arm off if they want to pay money for Marky G. Not only are his best years behind but his performances this season have become abject and dare i say it lazy.

Mark is a form player and this year he has been woefully under form. Personally dont think he has the legs to play down the wing any more and may be best suited to playing in the middle or behind a front two.

If he played in the middle he would ahve to dislodge bailey and maccs and considering he is the laziest player in the team and pulls out of most tackles i think he should go now while we can command a fee.

150k and il drive him to swansea or forest myself.

You seem to neglect the fact that he is out of contract therefore we won't get a fee for him, and sadly all that money on petrol would be wasted.

Would Gower want to relocate to Wales though??

Apart from a brief loan spell of 8 games at Motherwell he has spent his whole career in the South East of England at Spurs, Barnet and Southend.

Another crack at the championship at 29 - and from the way he gives as good as he gets when the fans give him grief, I would say that he no longer feels (if he ever did) a deep loyalty to Southend, nor do I blame him. I think if he goes we will struggle to replace him, and struggle to compete at the top next season, but I fear he will.

Every player at this level is replacable and if Gower is set on a last signing on fee and a crack at CCC again then so beit.

He has given us 7 odd years of great performances but there is no hiding the fact that his best years are behind him and maybe its the right time for both parties to part company.

It will be a shame and he will be missed for his flashes of brilliance and the way he can change a game with one ball or a jinkey run but too many inconsistant performances this season have left me getting frustrated with gower , i'm sure i'm not the only one either , on that basis i'm sure Tilly can find a player that will fill MG's boots.

I for one wouldnt be sad to go. I personally think Mark Gower is very overated, his final ball is shocking most times (when he finally does get a ball in after he finishes dancing with defenders!). Good luck at Swansea
