Mark Gower??

I for one wouldnt be sad to go. I personally think Mark Gower is very overated, his final ball is shocking most times (when he finally does get a ball in after he finishes dancing with defenders!). Good luck at Swansea

IIRC you were calling for Tilly's head after a few bad results earlier last season, on that premise your judgement left a lot to be desired. You are showing a similar lack of judgement about Mark Gower.

Not wishing to eradicate our respectful mutuality but i think it's a tad harsh to delve into his closet for ammunition to shoot him down in flames.
Let he who is without sin....cast the first stone....so Dot cotton says

I think you are mistaking Mr Gower for Mr Black!

Direct quotes from Martinez.... that's a bit worrying. I'd hoped that this was merely wild speculation.

I don't see any reason why Gower would stay here if Swansea are going to offer him a decent deal. And I can't see any way we'd be able to replace him with anyone anywhere near as good.

Gonna be contraversial here and say i would bite someones arm off if they want to pay money for Marky G. Not only are his best years behind but his performances this season have become abject and dare i say it lazy.

Mark is a form player and this year he has been woefully under form. Personally dont think he has the legs to play down the wing any more and may be best suited to playing in the middle or behind a front two.

If he played in the middle he would ahve to dislodge bailey and maccs and considering he is the laziest player in the team and pulls out of most tackles i think he should go now while we can command a fee.

150k and il drive him to swansea or forest myself.

I think that's a rather harsh assessment of Gower. I'd be the first to admit that at times he has not played well but i feel when he's on form he's one of our driving forces in our attacking play.

Agree with that Beefy . Realistically , MG has to now move on and I suspect that all concerned at the club recognise that . I would be very surprised if he starts with us next year . If so , we should all say thanks for his contributions and wish him well .

Just a shame IMHO that we didn't get the rumoured £400,000 for him last year

Story has now been picked up by Sky and showing on their transfer information pages.

Gutted if he goes but players have come and gone in the past and we have moved on. My heart says he will stay as he is a local lad and will think better the devil you know that the devil you dont.

Im not getting mixed up with anybody. I fought Mr Black was just as bad aswell. Ive got my opion on players so i'll speak my mind, after all this website is for that reason is'nt? southend united expressing their opions?

Are some people forgetting that Gower scored 10 goals in the CCC last year from midfield?! Dont get me wrong, I dont think he has been fantastic this year and his form isnt quite what it used to be. However, the thought of loosing one of our best players for FREE is gutting. Like many people have said, he does have the ability to change games at the blink of an eye. Not to mention the goals he chips in with.

Id much rather keep him and take the chances on his form, than loose him for free. I do think though, that given the chance at Swansea he could do very well and at this point in his career, he would be mad not to go. The fact that his family are young too means that it wont be too much unpheavel with uprooting from schools etc as I dont think they even go to school yet, therefore wont be taken away from friends etc. If it means more money for their future then I have no doubts that he would go. If he does then good luck to him, he has been brilliant for us.

I'm personally a bit baffled by something.

Why did we let one of our most influential attacking forces run down his contract so he could leave for nothing?

If SUFC tried to get him to sign a contract last summer, then they should come out and say that IF he leaves. Just seems a bit odd to me as it is clear how important Gower has been to us for years.

I swear that either Tilly or Ron said they'd leave it till towards the end of the season to negotiate contract extensions so that they could see how the players in question bounced back this season. Or am I going mad?

Gower

I got the info from a Swans fan, so it has to be considered as 2nd hand knowledge, perhaps he has gone away to think through the offers he has had, and return and make a decision, just a guess.

This is the score from our end lads, this was taken from our local evening post its what Roberto Martinez has said.......
"Mark Gower is a player we have been looking at,'' Martinez admitted.

''You only need to look at his record to see what kind of player he is. In a way he is similar to Andy Robinson in terms of his role on the pitch.

''He can play on both wings, he likes to come inside and link with the strikers and he has 10 goals a season in him.

I hope we get him lads i know it wont be a good thing for you guys i really wish that Roberto would bring in Eastwood too he'd be an awesome signing!!

I wouldn't be surprised if he left. He's pushing 30, it's known that he wants a final bigger pay day (young family to think about) and another shot at CCC football, which he isn't guaranteed if he re-signs with us. It's difficult but put yourself in his shoes.

At the same time, you wonder whether he'd want to uproot at this stage having been settled here since 2003. He's from Edmonton, sort of from this neck of the woods, and it might be difficult to relocate so far.

I think the chance to play championship football again will be enough to lure him to us like you say there is no guarantee you'll go up next season? it'll be a massive decision to make reguarding his Family but i guess this would be the last move of his career?? so he may take it with both hands??

If Gower sells up here , takes a nice little signing on fee , top that with better wages and then buys a nice gaff in Wales which i'm led to believe will be a lot cheaper than in London he will be on to a winner and should set him up nicely.

With all due respects you could quite easily come down next season and having seen you this season I was left highly underwelmed (Accept it could have been an off day) so he has to weigh up if its worth one potential season in the championship or if he thinks you can stay up more.

On BBC on the part about Bodde (2mil price tag) states at the bottom that swansea have comfirmed interest in Gower...so just a matter of time i suppose?
