Post-Match Thread and Ratings Maidenhead United 1-0 Southend United

Jeez...... we just can't break through against teams like Maidenhead (or Sittingbourne). We don't have the quality to turn half chances into goals. Why weren't we playing 3 strikers?

Maidenhead had a couple of chances, but their goal from the set piece was superb. They beat us at Roots Hall with two set pieces from the same player.

We slip down to 12th, six points off the play offs.
I keep saying that we are well off the goal difference and now I see that teams around us have games in hand.
Forget the playoffs.
Mid table finish will have to do.

Same here. I will probably give Tuesday a miss despite my season ticket and that's away days done this season. I am not paying anymore good money to watch that utter crap in the freezing cold.

All you Kev has credit in the bank people, seriously, how many new players have we got now and has anything improved? Any other manager would have been gone 3 months ago, come on enough of this dire, depressing football is enough.
Yeah I don't care the abuse I get, I can't be bothered Tuesday if the players can't.

Ralph isn't a LWB - I've been saying this since last season. I can see it, so why can't the management!!!

What makes it even more frustrating, is that he's our best CB, so just leave him there.

If Bridge is injured, why not try Wind there, or revert to a back 4!
Sub-par performance, management needs to take some responsibility, and all that. But why would you play Ralph in his best position only to move a right wing back to right back, and the other right wing back to left back, all in a system they don’t practise?

I liked the back line, first game together for Goodliffe and Golding and Taylor. Midfield showed some good touches to retain poseesion. Hayes done really well with the stops.
Bonne had a lovely ball put him through in box, stuck it well wide. Gus with the effort against the bar. Some awful shooting from range, what little amount of shots that were tried, wide or blocked.
Hopper, or Hooper as his shirt said, seemed to be unable to find any space which was very disappointing for a fella from L2. Walker ran up his own backside and met limb after limb. Ralph overplayed things, heavy touch, pretty ineffective and Gus much the same on the right. Noor, well just did Noor, no overlapping from him or Morton and barely from Coker. Get it give it, nothing for oppo to think about there.
Just like Sittingbourne, powderpuff.
All our strikers now, they have poor goalscoring rates and are playing to form, every one of them. Bridge out of action and Miley, leaves us short in the shots from midfield dept.
Leon did ok on his debut but nothing to suggest he'll be breaking out of midfield with the ball yet.
Their goalscorer seemed to foul to create his chance, a header, ill have to watch it again, but very disappointing to concede a free header.
We had loads of ball against a hardworking M'head but very little quality on a sodden bobbly pitch.

I'm now going to put myself on the fence. Maher you need to find a way to get results and get goals. I felt if we scored today we'd easily go home with 3 points. But we need lots of chances created for strikers AND midfield that cant score.
Up the Blues.

Once I saw the line up I had more than an inkling of how it was going to go.

I know Jack Bridge hasn’t been great this season, but, we’ve done OK when he’s started and we’ve been playing the poorer sides. Having 2 up front up and Ralph as our left sided attacker is a recipe for disaster.

We still haven’t got anyone with pace so we need whatever little bit of trickery Bridge can bring. It was easy for Kev last season when he only had 14/15 to pick a team from - it picked itself most weeks. Now we have 20/22 he hardly ever gets it right.

Of course we dominate games - opponents sit back - hit us on the break - win a corner 1-0 and sit on the lead - so predictable.

Play 3-4-3 twice in the league and win comfortably creating a fair few chances. Play 3-4-3 against Sittingbourne and create a lot of chances but unfortunately can’t finish them. They then score a freak goal with their only half-chance.
Instead of sticking with the formation, Maher panics and reverts to the safe and steady negative 3-5-2. Shock, we create absolutely nothing and concede loads of chances as we struggle to progress the ball. Shocking management from a man who doesn’t know his best team or formation 30 games into the season.
