Maher going nowhere says unhappy Ron

Gone 6 o'clock and we are given the news that Andy Abraham is performing at RH on Saturday but not that Maher has been sent out on loan.

This is an abysmal way to treat such a loyal club servant but sadly so typical of the way that the club conducts itself with it's PR.

Or it could be that the move hasn't happened yet. People can't have it both ways - everyone was moaning about the Club announcing the James Walker deal and then it falling through. Imagine the stick they'd get if they announce that Maher has gone and then Kev's dodgy knees force the move to collapse.

It's a shame that Maher has gone like this. I'd have hoped that he'd have been able to deal with the transition from being the focal point of the team to being a squad player, but in truth even if he could have accepted that I think there's a lot of our fans who wouldn't have. Every dropped point from here on in would have been met with people asking why he wasn't in the side. It's probably for the best that he's moved on so that we can all do the same.

Anyway, I wish him all the best for the future and I know I'll certainly get along to his testimonial when it takes place.

To be honest, I've not seen what Moussa brings to the side other than the 'MOOOOOOOOOOOSE' chant, so I'm hoping that this gives Anthony Grant a chance to show us why Jose Mourinho offered him a new contract last summer.

Not sure if this warrants another thread or another post to this thread but where is the confirmation of said loaning!

I'm sure its a done deal but it'd be nice to see something official.

It's been on and off for a while perhaps Dave is waiting for it to be off again. ;) :p

Spot on sir....

it's make or break for Moose really next year. I think he has showed some promise (played well at southampton last season, and looked good against Watford in the League Cup earlier this season, when he played a quality through-ball for Charlie Mac's goal). It's notable though that both those games were relatively 'relaxed'- not much riding on the result for us, and not many tackles sliding about. At Swansea just before Xmas, he may as well not have been on the pitch. Needs to step up and start performing in the tougher games if he's to justify the hype around him.

This is like Deja Vu all over again, or Lee Bradbury all over again anyway.
It seems to me that Kevin Maher's last few appearances for the team haven't been greeted with much enthusiasm and not many have been calling for his reinstatement to the team but now he's supposed to be going it's seen as a big loss.

How long are we going to hold on to him, though? Will he even be here next year?

I hope we can hold onto him [Bailey] for another season. By that time you'd hope that Moussa would be ready for a regular first team role, although I'm concerned by his lack of progress this season. I think it is far from certain that Maher would be fit enough to build a team around in a year and a bit's time.

Very poor of Tilson to let Maher go if true..Many people on here think he is past his best, but I beg to differ....

Lots of people seem to think that if you are a box to box all energy all tackling player, then you are the man...

Why waste all that energy when you can let the ball do the work...Something that Maher is, and always will be good at. Passing the ball and letting the ball do the hard work, leaving Maher to concentrate on the game, the movement of the players etc etc. Not someone we now have at the club unfortunately!!!

When the Trust presented him with the award, I thought it maybe the last we saw of Kevin for a while, lets hope Martin is a decent person and gives Kevin the testimonial he deserves, if its the last we see of him

My view the mans a legend in to days world of overpaid footballers, good luck Kevin and shame you werenot more greedy for money and gone to a bigger club, were perhaps you talents would have been more appreciated.

A true Southend legend in my eyes, you can stick your Collymores and Eastwood any day, give me 11 Mahers on the pitch any day of the week
