Transfer News and Gossip Macauley Bonne Signs

Transfer news
I am a tad miffed at the vitreol directed at Macca by a minority.
He said he was off the pace but has now got to the 90 minutes fitness/speed as required, he is, in my, and more tellingly, professional, opinions contributing importantly for the team.
He knows goals are needed but is not "clutching at straws" or spurning/stealing better chances for others (Bim) to get off the mark himself.
He is playing a role as a 10 or 8 akin to MAF or Benji that has been missing from our sides for a long time.
Talk with him and he is no primadonna or big time charlie SO why the continued negativity?
Bonne, Keenan, Moncur may be the keys to a successful 2025.
UTB!

Think we look a better team with him in it at the moment.

He’s one of the few players we’ve bought in lately that you can really see has played at a much higher level. Though, until he grabs a couple of goals that is a stick some will choose to beat him with.

I think there is upgrade to be made in January if we can, he doesn’t press like Cardwell did and like Kev likes his strikers to, but I can see him as a strong squad player going forward. I do think once he gets one he’ll get a few, and I hope he grabs a late winner or something to endear himself further to the supporters.

He is a striker who doesn't score goals. That's not good. The defense of his play reminds me of when I was being told that Emile Heskey deserved to play for England.

I loved Heskey.

I remember being in a pub watching the England Germany game, with Lampard’s ghost goal.

4-1 down and we bring on Heskey. I’ve never seen a pub empty that quick. I stayed till the end in the hope he’d turn it around 😢

I was less than impressed by Bonne in his first games for us but, gradually, he has looked sharper, fitter and more influential on the pitch. He has won me around enough to think the best is yet to come. He organises things from the front and I am sure young Pepple has flourished alongside Bonne. Macaulay's experience is something our strikers need to learn from and I am in no doubt they will. Bonne is contributing positively to the play and when he gets a couple of goals I am sure he will confound his detractors.

Blimey, we can't say anything about a striker not scoring goals. That is his job, that's why we signed him. Bim can be recalled at any time, would you still say that if he was playing on his own...
I feel he is being given more than enough time to get going, something which is not given to others

Goals would help his case but, currently, he is playing as a TM, a role that he is learning and he is not able to play the way that previously got him so many goals. He will get some but, he is at least assisting the team in getting goals. I suspect he would look much better if we signed a decent TM to play alongside him. If we did the new TM would be criticised for not getting 20 goals even if the team won every game.

He has only three assists this season. One against Charlton, the other two in the League were against Fylde and Solihull way back in September.

The final assist stat never reflects the contribution to play. You could have a move that consists of thirty passes but only the last pass is noted. You could have a move with two passes and only the last pass is mentioned in stats.

This is our problem, we are happy with mediocrity. I would drop him, and that could give him a change of fortune. Maybe by playing him all the time its putting more pressure on him?
It's not as simple as that, his experience takes the pressure off Pepple and his understanding of the game helps his strike partner maintain a threat while he does the less glamorous work. He is big enough and ugly enough not to worry about a few Southend fans.

We'd all like to see him start scoring goals but at the moment he's by far the most experienced player we have in the final 3rd and that is important.

Just because he has experience, doesn't mean he should get a start. Even Walker who was on for 5 mins , scored with his one and only touch. It's funny, the guys who are very protective of Kev, are also very protective of a striker who can't score, we need more of a killer instinct.

Dalby was a target man, scored
Corr was a target man, scored
Fortune was a target man, scored

This dude is on Drewe Broughton, Barrington Belgrave & Matt Harrold bad.

He's making Blair Sturrock and Tes look like prime Ibrahimovic
Bonne has scored many more goals than Dalby and already more than Corr did in his entire career. He's had a slow start but he has the ability to make even you smile.
