Transfer News and Gossip Macauley Bonne Signs

Transfer news
I really do get it that a so called modern striker has to be far more than a bloke who hits the net regularly. Of course the game has changed and data/.stats have also influenced things considerably.
Assessment data on key/good passes, hold up play, , press , to defend well in the final third and to complete significant assists, all add into the picture. Does Bonne really achieve all this ( as well as score )

Apparently stats suggest you score more shooting from inside the box, the stats may account for why goals scored from outside has has virtually halved in the Premiership,

However to be retained you need to be very good at the above if you are not scoring. Kev will have the stats. Personally coming up to 18 games with no goals and few assists doesnt somehow do it for me.

Hardly Tomlin and Assombolanga either is it. Imagine a second striker like Tomlin

Also Do you count the ratio of goals per appearances or rate of goals per attempts? On either account Bonnes record is very poor, missing a number of chances that a striker of his experience really should have put away eyes closed? Theres very few 20 goal a season strikers. of course 10 to 15 might be considered good, A goal every 3 games? or maybe 4 On current form Bonne would be on for just under 3 a season is that what we want from a striker? Surprised if it is

Maybe it could all turn around for him next season with some good fortune etc

I don't think anyone's suggesting we can't get better or shouldn't be looking for better. But the fact he's not banged in 15 goals already doesn't mean he's totally useless. Personally I feel his all round play is getting better and has been a key factor in some of our better performances of late. He's a cog in a wheel.

I think the team would be best with Moncur playing it to Bim or Bonne playing alongside eachother however they never seem to get game time together as a trio! Woe betide we actually try and play positive attacking football!

Interesting that you mention Tomlin as he took an age to score his first goal and was written off on here. Once he did, the floodgates opened. When Bonne finally scores (I have faith) the same may happen to him.

Bonne has scored many more goals than Dalby and already more than Corr did in his entire career. He's had a slow start but he has the ability to make even you smile.
Does he still have that ability though? That's yet to be seen. He just hasn't been good enough for us yet and unless he starts scoring soon then he shouldn't be kept for next season

Well I guess one of us will be eating humble pie. I'm too arrogant so it won't be me whatever the outcome. However, I am sure you share the sentiment that you would love him to bang in a bundle of goals and be pleased for him. If he doesn't, well, at least he tried.

Indeed he did. In fact he went 13 games and thanked Sturrock for sticking with him. He was also 29 I think when he joined us.M However he could play as a striker, either wing, or attacking midfielder and had some considerable pace

He went on to score 13 goals in just 33 games. Thats 13 goals in 20 games after that initial barren spell

Bonne has had 18 games and barely got anywhere near it and isnt even up against league teams, Hardly striking comparison therefore in my view and mentioned by the Brentwood commentators at 68 minutes as being "anonymous"
Still no doubt like you I want him to tear this league up as he should be capable of doing in theory

Just seen Wimbledon have Joe Piggot and Josh Kelly up front tonight in the Vertu trophy against col u. Wouldn’t mind trying to get either of them here. Piggot would be great to have back up front

Josh Kelly wanted to be here, but Alan Devonshire wouldn’t do business with RM having been stung by him in the past…..

We tried to get Josh Kelly in the past but Maidenhead didn't want to deal with Ron.

Both players have played 15 games for Wimbledon this season, I don't see them either being interested in dropping down or being sold/loaned

Josh Kelly (League Two)
15 Games
1 Goal (scored in their last game)
3 Assists
2 Starts
394 mins total (Avg. 26 mins per game)

I wonder if he's frustrated enough to want to drop and play regular football again..

Problem with things like this are the wages. Any player at lower league level would drop down if the wages are right or if we could pay his loan wage.

I know this is a forum for opinions and opinions differ and all that but some of you really have no idea about player roles, Macca is in the team to do more, much more than score goals, his movement creates so much space for the likes of Bim to o drive into, he times his jumps well and will never give up on a high ball even if he knows he won’t win it putting pressure on the defensive header allowing us to win the second ball.

Try he fact other teams managers have singled him out for his performances without as scoring goals shows something and I personally think there opinions have a bit more credibility

Utterly stupid by Maher to put him on the bench again yesterday. We looked a totally different attacking threat as soon as he came on. Pepple looked decidedly ineffective without his classy accompanying frontman.
One thing you don't know and only Kevin and Co do is which players had suffered with the illness that had gone through the Club. Was the reason that Coker didn't start and there were others.
