Leeds United Fun & Games

Spoke to the owner of the Nelson before Tuesdays game and he said it had been designated an away pub for Saturday. Expect a lot of rowdiness around there.

That' s very clever, should make Shakespear Drive interesting. All the fans going into the West including the Family stand are going to meet up with Leeds fans after they have had a few (+) pints - very clever.

well yeah , unless they also intend to enforce a 40mph speed limit or know of some road block /diversion near peterborough .

But assuming they keep them on the coaches, it seems illogical . On the other hand if they let them off the coaches to go marauding around the town extra Police might be needed .

Overtime , Sarge ?

Im guessing and it is only a guess mind, that the police might be meeting the coaches to escort them in and keep leeds fans in one place ie: pub or carpark. It's a favorite ploy of Sunderland police who used to give you a guided tour of the local trading estates and Nissan factory. Then it was straight into the ground, game then straight back onto the coach and out of town. That might be the plan.

Might need an increased Police presence then ......Overtime Sarge ?

fair enough , but why bring them in earlier ?

could someone please fill me in as to why this is all going on  . Why Southend? I know we're close to them in the league but i don't really understand this rivalry, does this happen on all Leeds United away games?PLEAS£E TELL ME!! I realise that I sound like a clueless t**t so I'll end with a fact:o
It's been 60 matches since we've won 3 games in a row:p does that make me sound a bit smarter?

I was talking to an Ipswich fan last week and he said that they had had no trouble all season apart from Leeds fans who felt it was good fun to throw coins into the family enclosure below. They do have a nasty element who will probably get a bit lairy when we go one nil up.

Unless they're asleep 'cos we made 'em get up so early !

So where's the designated home pub then?
As an away supporter with Southend i can't imagine a nice "away pub"
when i went to Leeds.

All this tosh makes me angry that the home pub is shut 'cos a few boys
coming from oop north. So bleeding what? Leeds should be told to stay away from our boozer as they're not welcome,as with any away team.

Can you imagine the Leeds pub closing because Southend are bringing 2000 up to Yorkshire?

We'll be drinking in Golden Lion early as a designated Southend pub.

I've heard about this too. Police apparently expecting quite a bit of trouble on Saturday. Leeds fans have always been intent on causing trouble, especially at seaside towns (Bournemouth they practically smashed the seafront up) Should create for a hostile but hopefully electric atmosphere in the ground :D

Its true ,dont be surprised if they bring a fair few down as they do like their seaside jaunts! I was at Bournemouth for a dirty weekend when they rolled into town (hell, that was 20 years ago!!!) Mind you i tried unsuccessfully to get into Dean court that day because that was the only part of town not infested by leeds fans.Me and the LUCKY lady also had a job getting into a club later that night because of trouble they caused("if youre not fromhere you must be from leeds"bouncer mentality!!)

Dont forget because theyve been naughty in the past, only members can buy tickets for their away games so the atmosphere down at the hall will be electric but it`ll be the blues fans making all the noise when we kick their ****:guns:

Hmm... i was in the Nelson on Tuesday too, they said they were hoping to be open as usual (ie home and away fans) but would make a final decision on Friday.. certainly no mention of it being away fans only, and considering half the regulars in there are just p!ss heads who don't even go to the games i can't see it being any different to normal

Rumors going round the whole town, I have had patients of mine coming in and warning me about the now six thousand hooligans coming from leeds, they think southend gonna resemble Bahgdad tomorrow. I laughing about it, will be good atmos in ground though.

same. rumours going around my office to stay away from the seafront, which takes the right **** as its meant to be a nice day and why should we stay of our own seafront. i've been on a few leeds forums and theres no talk about anything happening but then again if there was they are even dumber than i thought!

To be honest just stay about from the "golden mile" and your be fine, unless they have taken over that caravan park near east beach.

I spoke to a mate who is a regular on the england fans forum and he spoke to a few leeds fans on there. They laughed when he asked if they had heard anything. Its just chinese whispers and everyone blowing it out of proportion, someone even mentioned that Leeds are now bringing Cardiff fans aswell!!!! For gods sake what a load of tosh. I hope their isnt going to be loads of trouble but I very much doubt it is going to be 6,000 knife carrying crazy Leeds fans without tickets!!

It seems like hype has mostly been whipped up by people who know nothing about football or the way visiting supporters (or hooligans even) actually behave. Yes there'll be a few thousand Leeds supporters, yes there'll be some ticketless ones among them, yes there'll probably be some intent on causing trouble but let's not get carried away and intimidated. Think how we've been proud in the past of taking thousands of supporters to an away game at a 'smaller' club and filled the away end and some of the home sections, turning it into a 'home' game.

What will be the predominant factor will be thousands of passionate supporters coming down to Southend, believing it's their right to win the game and stay in this league, intimidating our little old football team and its fans.

Have a look at the comments on this forum:

Slightly dodgier end of the Leeds' support

They are laughing at us and claiming all this talk has virtually given them a goal start.

Let's surprise them with our passion, not be intimidated in the ground or on the pitch and make this a great day for Southend United, and one that goes a long way to establishing us a Championship team again next year.
