Leeds United Fun & Games

I've heard that Essex police are so afraid of the 40,000-50,000 Leeds fans turning up without tickets and going in the home end, that they have recruited the Colchester Carnage Bridage to "sort them out".

With at least 400,000 Leeds on the street, its going to be carnage on the streets of Southend on Saturday.

Quite how even the Colchester Carnage Bridage cope with 5,000,000 Leeds fans running riot remains to be seen.

Now, I don't think any of you are taking this seriously now ...

I am ;) Just called a friend of mine on 'the force' and as was mentioned to me last night the police feel that there could well be a contingent of troublesome ticket-less Leeds supporters making their way down for the weekend.

He did also mention that the seafront is easier to police than the streets around the ground, hence the closure of The Railway, The Golden Lion and The Spread. The Nelson and Blue Boar are still open I believe but that could well change come match day.

BTW - Rich, it wasn't a "mate in a pub". It was a rather nice and exclusive restaurant in the port; I had a very nice parrillada de pescado washed down with a very fine vino tinto de la casa.

Class , a man after my own heart- red wine with fish - (oh sh*t did I say fish)

It was only a house red though - not so much of a connoisseur after all...;) :D

What a great thread, covering hooliganism and fine wines. A thouroughly entertaining combination. Keep it coming lads!

14 Euros a bottle in Spain Mike. That's a serious spend up. I hope you got your nuts in for that sort of money.:p

It's a decent joint, not your run-of-the-mill burger and chips bar you might find in Benidorm or Torrevieja. And I might be eager to close the deal on the project but I'm certainly not desperate enough to resort to "getting my nuts in" to secure it!! :D

Anyway, back on topic: who bets that nothing actually happens?

Just seen this on the englandfans webite in the fans forum:

Southend v Leeds Tickets

Mate looking for 2 / 3 tickets for this game. Lives down South but avid Yorkie and gets to fair few matches, but cant get through standard channels.

Doesn't mind being in with locals - if anyone can help please PM and I'll get back to you tonight

One Team In Essex
Southend United FC:)

what happened to the good old days of last seasons battle with the swansea youth lol

I was told by my dad not to go down the seafront this weekened because he's heard there's going to be problems.....

I'd like to thank everyone who talked up the prospect of violence for this one for spoiling my pre and post match pints.

I know the rumours weren't started by SZ and people were only passing on what they heard, but careless talk costs pints. If scare stories blown out of all proportion really are your thing, may I recommend the Daily Mail.

Perhaps we should bring this to the FA attention, thus if there is a bit of a kerfuffle we can demand that leeds have not heeded the warnings, disregarded the FA's pre-notice and therefore should have points deducted :)

Unfortunately, if a few herberts want to come down here for the weekend and cause a bit of mischief then there is nothing Leeds United or any other club can do to stop those intividuals travelling by their own means. They might not even be members of the teams travel club or have any official association with the team.

Just seen on the Leeds website that Southend Police have brought forward the departure time of their coaches from 8.30 to 7am .

Anyone know why ?????

that means they will be here even longer than before. great!

well yeah , unless they also intend to enforce a 40mph speed limit or know of some road block /diversion near peterborough .

But assuming they keep them on the coaches, it seems illogical . On the other hand if they let them off the coaches to go marauding around the town extra Police might be needed .

Overtime , Sarge ?

just seems a bit stupid! i planned to go down the sea front before i heard about of this crap and i'm not going to not go because of some dumb **** notherners

Spoke to the owner of the Nelson before Tuesdays game and he said it had been designated an away pub for Saturday. Expect a lot of rowdiness around there.
