Lee Barnard

I doubt that the club would be wise to announce the signing until every last detail has been done and the medical passed and any results that need waiting on are seen .

The club don't want to be shot down again on bad PR issues , but Barnard has signed and should be announced maybe later but if not then tommorrow.

I have spoke to a spurs fan of mine who believe's we have a great player on our hands and with Keane Defoe , bent and Berbatov he was never going to get a game no matter what he did in the reserves , but he says he has pace , can run at players , not afraid to get stuck in and can score with either foot and with his head , so i'm a bit mythed at to why all the negativaty about him ?????

I presume it's to do with his average scoring record whilst out on loan.

Indeed, most people are basing their opinions on what they saw of him and Crewe when they visited earlier in the season.

Crewe were awful, but you could see he was far and away the best player on their team.

He will be a great signing in my opinion and I can't wait to see him in the blue of Southend.

:)

so i'm a bit mythed at to why all the negativaty about him ?????

The negativity seems to be based on three things.

a) His unproductive loan spells at various clubs.
b) He had a bad game for Crewe down here earlier in the season.
c) The Orient fans think he's rubbish ( as a result of reason a) .) .

I'm optimistic this will work out, he was prolific for Spurs reserves including a hatrick against Arsenal. He's a local lad and after a nomadic few years on loan at different teams someones finally taking a serious punt on him. People have been bemoaning that we never seem to get players from the Premiership reserves so I guess you can't win sometimes.

In fairness he was never really given a long spell on any loan :

Crewe 9 (1) 3 Goals
Northampton3 (2) 0
Leyton Orient 3 (5) 0
Stevenage 2 (2) 1
Exeter 3 (0) 0

So hardly got a decent run in any of them and 3 goals in 9 starts for Crewe isnt too bad.

Because on the 4 or 5 times i've seen him play he possesses none of those abilities.

I'm not saying i'm not going to give him a chance. Not at all, I'm just saying on what i've seen of him, he's not the answer to our goalscoring problem. Of course, signing a permanent deal at a club close to home could settle him and we may get the best out of him. we'll have to wait and see...

The time I saw Wayne Rooney live he wasn't much cop. Then again nor was Ronaldo.:)

I'm also surprised at Mr. Stokes jumping to conclusions about Barnard after only 3 starts, and 5 sub appearances.

Still, I guess that didn't stop most of the posters on this board jumping to conclusions about Billy Paynter, after probably even fewer appearances at the Hall.

:(

If T&B have been tracking Barnard for ages, then that's good enough for me - I wish Lee every success here, I'm sure he'll be a big hit.

:)

Thats a fair comment.

Have to say I was pretty sure that Paynter wasnt good enough after the first game and if others have a low opinion of Barnard then that doesnt sound promising.

The one difference is Barnard has at least done well for the Spurs reserves and Im hoping he has potential that can still be fulfilled.

Has he officially signed yet, all is this purely hearsay?

Nothing has been announced officially yet but there are very strong rumours (and apparently an article in today's Echo) that state that he is about to/has already signed. I suspect we won't hear from the club until the formalities are all out of the way and it is definite that he can join us in the light of the James Walker situation.

Not officially, but this is more likely due to the club not wanting lightning to strike twice and fall through with issues over his medical or something. Posters who claim to know Lee have said he has definitely signed & all will be announced soon, as did the other guy who mentioned the signings of Walker & Masters before they happened!

You can't base your opinions on one or two performances at clubs he's been on loan at. At most of those club, bar Crewe, he only ever started 2 or 3 games. And he played in a very poor side in Crewe at RH earlier this season. You can't judge him on that either, even though he looked head and shoulders above anything else in their team.

I think he'll do well. His Prem reserves striking record speaks for itself. And I really think that he's just not a 'loan' player. I'm sure he'll feel much more comfortable playing for a club on a permanent contract, close to home.

Can't see him being a panic buy if Tilly has been tracking him for ages anyway. He certainly won't cost the 200k+ that people fear.

Did you say Hearsay, Bill!?

;)
