Kacper Łopata Signs!

The Polish rumour is something an agent would put about to push through a deal, reminding Sheff Utd that he could walk for free at the end of the season so they may as well cash in now.

I wonder if this has soured our relationship with Sheff Utd at all? They may be less keen to send their star young players here if they all fall in love and want to stay…
They have already learned their lesson and sent Neal to Barrow...

Kevin Maher says Blues’ signing of Kacper Łopata will only add to the competition for places in the squad.

Łopata joins on a two-year deal with an option for a further year, and Maher was thankful to the club for allowing it to happen. He said: “He’s obviously someone we know well and have monitored.

"We thought we needed another body in the defensive area, so when the opportunity came we had to go for it. I’m grateful to the chairman and everyone at the club for making it happen.”

The Polish U21 international appeared in 18 games for Blues last season. On his return, Maher added: “Last season’s in the past now, we’re focused on what we’ve got here and now.

“The players we’ve added will complement the ones that were already here and it’s about building a better team and a better squad with a plan of how we’re going to work going forward. Kacper just adds to that. When you add good players, it improves everyone.”

It’s been quite a settled defensive line in the last four games, which is one of the main reasons why Blues currently have the joint-best defensive record in the Vanarama National League.

Despite his pedigree, Maher insisted that Łopata will have to earn his place in the side. “Hobbo [Shaun Hobson], Kens [Ollie Kensdale] and Louis Lomas have all done brilliantly so Kacper’s got to fight for the shirt like anyone else. Hopefully that competition raises the standards further and makes us stronger as a team.”

The Shrimpers take on Torquay United at Roots Hall tomorrow [Saturday], and Maher says Łopata will be in contention to play. “He’s in training today [Friday], so we’ll see where he is.

“The three lads that have played have been brilliant, so they’ve earned to right to keep going and all credit to them. Kacper’s one of a number of players who could play tomorrow.”

It’s not just Stan it’s the whole football department and the new CEO. They’re changing things slowly but it was a huuuuge job picking things up off the floor. On the pitch, you can see the team spirit and pride to wear the shirt is back for the first time in years .. and it’s a real pleasure watching SUFC again.

On Kacper, this is yet another signing that’ll make people sit up and take note…just the kind of personality we need and a real talent .. pleased for him as I know he wanted to return.

The point is though, Stan introduced the CEO and helped with the appointments of the football apartment, so my comment still stands

Wow....... "Thank You" to everyone associated with Southend United for making this transfer happen, another part of the "jigsaw" coming together. Feels like an early Christmas present to all Shrimpers. Not felt this excited about our football future for so many years........
