January Transfer Window Thread 2020

Midfielder. Good to see there’ll likely be some changes to the squad in this area. Also someone who currently plays at L2 level, so presumably no issue playing there next season.

Interesting that we are going after a contracted player and not a free agent.

Im not sure we would have to pay any type of fee as they aren't being paid and can leave for free.

This does not look like a very inspiring potential signing. He was let go by Gillingham and failed to establish himself at Cambridge, also had a loan spell at Newport County. Cambridge finished 21st last season, during which he was sub 11 times with only one starting appearance, not selected since January. Don't know if injuries played a part in that but either way it doesn't look good. Signed by Campbell in the summer and to be fair has been a regular this season but Macclesfield are just above the drop zone and would only have been a couple of places higher without the recent points deduction. Is this really the level we aiming for?

Why shouldn't we be aiming for someone just turned 23 who is impressing in L2 this season?

We're the worst team in the league by a mile, and probably worse than a lot of the league below. I'm willing to give him a go.

Going for younger known players or experienced loans is a good move for me. Sol, Hreidarsson and Cole know what they need.

Think I'll ride with the punches.

Things obviously didn't go well for him at Cambridge but he played a fair bit of L1 football for Gillingham, and he's coming to a good age now. Players work with some clubs and not others, it largely depends on how they fit in with the players around them. It's almost like it's a team game and not a collection of individuals. Osadebe is doing well in a struggling side, he wouldn't cost the earth and would be keen to see if he can cut it in L1 again, even if it is only for a few months. Also it sounds like he would be a presence in midfield, we are crying out for that.

And do people really think we would be able to attract an awful lot better? Agents prefer not to work with us and we're in a dreadful position, with no money.

Seems no clauses in contracts according to this. Can’t remember who but some one did say Ndukwu’s had one. Seems we could be stuck with them unless the parent clubs agree to take them back. Would make sense too so they get game time elsewhere

Yes, I fully understand how difficult, if not impossible it is for us to attract players of the right calibre and maybe we have to lower our sights and play hunches as in the present case. Just an indication how quickly we have declined from the days when Brown was making 'prestige' signings.

“My hands are tied behind my back.”

Ron, cut him some slack, and give him a decent transfer budget.

No thought not.

It’s almost as though Ron is already paying out for a massive wages budget that is more than decent.

We don’t have an endless money pit to pay for players who won’t want to come here unless we pay over the top wages. Either we somehow manage to get rid of players and free up wages or Sol has to deal with loan signings. Overspending isn’t an option.

We'll only get people in by letting people go. Expect to see one or two big earners leave. Maybe offer Theo permanently to Colchester if we're still paying some wages.

So did Kevin Maher. It turned out that if you had a Mark Gower for Maher to pass to he looked twice the player. Like Milligan who plays a similar role, those types of players will look a lot better when they have players who are available for a pass and can do something with a pass.

Hyam's problem though was that he was never fit.

Milligan n Hyam not fit to lace Maher's boots. Kevin Should of played in championship for most of his career, not just one season. He was Majestic, the king, King Kevin!!!!

Oh a happy New Year to all Shrimpers..

It will be interesting to see whether Sol Campbell says goodbye to both Milligan and Hyam during this transfer window.

Happy New Year to all Shrimpers!

Whilst I agree, Ron did say that Campbell will be able to bring in players not so long ago. If he can't deliver then he shouldn't make these sort of statements.

Joke of a chairman/so called businessman.
