I despair ,some of you want a forward who cannot score for toffee.last 80 appearances 5 goals,no thanks.

Is this the same forward you described as a "proper forward" only a few weeks ago? Seemed like he was good enough when it suited your 4-4-2 argument, but not now.

Before we criticize too much our existing forwards, football is a team game where everyone has a job to stop goals or score them. A player has more of a direct bearing on either options, such as forwards should score more than a defender and vice-versa. However look at the goals scored by the centre half at Bristol City. He as scored as many as our top scorer. So the fact remains that everybody has a duty to chip in with as many goals as possible. This season has seen a distinct lack of vital goals from some areas of the team which has resulted in a poor goal difference leading to lost points over the last nine months

Funny how you decided to start your stats in November 2012, that way you can ignore the other 10 goals he scored that season.

Yet again you are using selective stats. He has started 86 games and scored 20 goals, a rate of almost 1 in 4. Just ignoring the 16 he scored in 34 games for Tranmere doesnt make your argument any stronger.

His record for us is poor, but his record prior to coming to us was decent.

I have based it on the last 2 and a half seasons which any fair minded individual would accept, yes before November 2012 he was indeed scoring well and if he had continued in that scoring form he would not be here.By your reasoning in 10 years time you can still say "yeah but he scored prior to Nov 2012".

This team need goalscorers and for me Jake doesn't cut it.

He was playing that position before Pigott and Cassidy joined. People see Payne in the side and assume its 451 but he always played right up with Corr.

That is his position, in the "hole", its just whether he can play there and consistently deliver, for me at the moment he just has far too many games that pass him by, but he is still very young.

Thing is if you do play him up there then Corr is hamstrung as he has to do all of the physical work, and thats where Cassidy and Pigott have an advantage as they can bear some of the load and give Corr (or whoever is up front) more freedom to get in the box.

Indeed, his stats for us are rubbish, but even with his games for us he has scored 21 goals in 86 starts, which is a good return for someone his age.

The Morecambe game never passed him by.

As for Barry 'I cant play on my own' look at the extended highlights ( match ratings thread, post130). first half header....poor, Payne's cross....no anticipation, Deegan's 60 yard pass...could have easily headed over the keeper who was in no mans land, 50/50 didn't fancy it, finally Payne (again) tees up a shot.... shoots at keepers legs.

451,442, Payne in the 'hole, Hamstrung on his own. no none of them just poor finishing/forward play simple as that.

Wondered when you would wade in and you didn't surprise me.

Well you've dropped yourself in it so deep.....wade is a suitable option

1/ I wouldn’t be joyous over this signing, think we could do better. However I wouldn’t be too disheartened, he does show some potential.

2/ Corr has served us very well and I’d want him leading the line next season if we don’t go up, he’s a league 2 player IMO. Would still have him in league 1 but as back up.

3/ Nobody takes mrsblue’s stats seriously, everybody automatically assumes they are doctored.

Ok, let me fully understand the intent of the original poster in this thread. Cassidy has been released by Wolves -Yeah, I get that; Do we want to consider signing him permanently? - Yeah, I get that too, pretty straightforward yes or no; Discuss the merits of his talents - Yeah, of course we should. Is this a fertile ground for the old 4 4 2 argument? I don't remember the OP asking this, but yeah, why not, just about every other thread gets it at some time or the other.

I think next up is the Jason Williams should be starting ahead of him argument

Any reasonable analysis would take into account he is a young player and in and out of starting line ups and that in 3.5 years he has scored 20 goals. He might well have gone off the boil but he spent 6 months of the period you only want to include at Championship level in and out of the team, so his record was hardly going to be amazing because he clearly isnt good enough for that level.

Thing is I do actually agree with you, I wouldnt be rushing to sign him based on his performances for us, but I wouldnt write him off completely because he overall he does have a decent record overall.

Are you mad ?

Stats from Soccerbase ,his last 87 appearances 5 goals, how on earth have I made up those stats !

no I am not mad - the below is from soccerbase- they don't match what you posted - please enlighten us

I would only sign him if there was enough budget for another striker to come in as well. We do need a proven goal scorer, If we had one this season, we would have been promoted by now.

What, like one who could score 15 goals in 31 starts this season and 62 in 127 starts for us?

Or one who scored 4 in 8 starts this year and has scored 37 in 78 starts for us?

Jake works hard and has good movement, I'm sure once his duck is broken he'll get his fair share.

I'd be delighted if he signed.

A lot of people still missing the point about Cassidy. You can argue stats til your blue in the face. To many many people he's so friggin boring!
