Jack Wood joins Torquay on loan

The standard, even at the top, of NL South and North is far off the standard of even average teams in the NL. You would expect him to stand out as a full time pro against part time opposition. I think he has a decent football brain but is neither quick nor strong enough and probably lacks concentration.
When I met mfurok last he predicted that Jack Wood would find an EFL club that would take him on.

He is the best on the training pitch every week though.

With Jack Wood - I went to the pre season game vs Bishops Stortford. Jack wood came on in the second half. A clearance was hit about 40 yards and would have hit his head if he stood still. Shouts from Collin of “head it”. Wood was 5 yards away by the time it arrived and their fella headed it unchallenged. He may be the best player in the world, but if he doesn’t want to get risk getting hurt he will never get game time.
To be fair I always did my best to avoid heading long clearances or goal kicks back in the day. The last thing you need on a freezing February Sunday morning whilst nursing a hangover is a wet muddy football slapping into your forehead like a punch from Tyson Fury. Im sure no one noticed.. But I guess you have no choice if you’re being paid for it 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. I was more Pat Butcher than Terry Butcher myself.

Kev avoided quite a lot of tackles with a quick pass to the side or back?:Winking:
the key difference is that a pass to a team - mate retains possession.

But you weren't a professional footballer

Years ago as one of those very soggy muddy football came heading from high in my direction from a strong goal kick I thought I would run straight on to it, only for a defenders boot to smash it into my face before it hit the ground from about 2 feet away. The result was a prone me with a very broken nose ! ( thats caused a few problems since !:Hilarious:)

Out on loan - Southend United midfielder Jack Wood (Image: Graeme Wilcockson)

By Chris Phillips@cjphillips1982Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher will 'evaluate' what is best for the next stage of Jack Wood's career.

Wood's 28 day loan at National League South side Torquay United expires this weekend.

And Maher must decide what to do next.

"It's something we've got to evaluate," said Maher.

"Jack went out to get minutes but it hasn't happened.

"It's the level below but he's gone to a team who are high up in the league, I get that.

"I think Jack wanted to play and it's something we'll look at."

Wood has made three substitute appearances while with the Gulls.

Bring him back and give him 45 minutes... what's the worst that can happen? He threaten our top goal scoring forwards of the season (Bim excluded, obviously)

He's not a striker 🤦🏻‍♂️

Jesus this is frustrating

He either needs to be played behind the strikers or at RWB when we need more attacking options in the field

Aside from, we don't have a system to suit

The problem is that is Jack is a bit of an enigma. He's not good enough as a striker to score many goals, even if he started 35 games. He hasn't the stamina or tackling ability to be a midfielder.

If he's not getting a game at a team in a division below, maybe that's telling us something
Tbf Torquay are at the top of the NLS so was never going to walk into their team. He had a good loan spell with Tonbridge Angels a couple of years ago at the same level. I think another loan in the NLS would be good for him

ts certainly telling us we sent him on loan somewhere who can’t provide the one thing we sent him there for. Might have been sensible to send him to a mid table team rather than a team flying and reluctant to make changes (understandably). What it probably tells us is nothing.
