Jack Wood joins Torquay on loan

When we are chasing a game and need that attacking outlet, he could do a job there and play more advanced, last time he did that he played well and got the assist for the winner or equaliser (can't remember)

Basically a winger

But not from the start of a game, obviously 😅
Agree with this- we often leave Gus on when he blowing out of his backside. Never seen Gus substituted?

Of course Wind would be less than amused.

The problem is that is Jack is a bit of an enigma. He's not good enough as a striker to score many goals, even if he started 35 games. He hasn't the stamina or tackling ability to be a midfielder.
I agree he is something of an enigma

On the positive front from what I saw of his average 9 minutes game time, this season he looked sharper, stronger and fitter, I dont think hes a great tackler either but neither is Coker. who has done exceptionally well in fitting into Kevs set up Wood has scored 2 hattricks in lesser game outings with the tag of a stunning goal attributed.

Apart from slotting him out on the right of a front 3 we dont really know what else to do with him ,for reasons you highlight. He has a capability to go round people and by repute is our best crosser of a ball

Given we cant score form the other 97 poor crosses we put in it may be worth giving him one more chance on loan elsewhere to get game time

However But not sure where that leaves him in Kevs magical 3-5-2 , League leaders playing 4.3.3. or 4-4.2 might be more helpful set up for him? Not suggesting he would be snapped up there, just wondering about the system deployed that would more benefit the lad

He will be off at the end of this season and I for one wish him all the best.

It can't of been easy being here and constantly left out in the cold.

We don't get to see what goes on behind closed doors, but he always carries himself well when he was in a matchday squad, gave his all and clapped fans, provided signatures, photo opps for kids etc, most of the time having not played a single minute.

I hope he gets to enjoy his football again elsewhere next season. There is definitely talent in there (His goal when he dropped a shoulder and sat down 3 Aldershot defenders last season in a 4-1 win, was one of the best I've seen at RH in recent times) he just needs the right club. Unfortunately, that isn't here.

He's not a striker 🤦🏻‍♂️

Jesus this is frustrating

He either needs to be played behind the strikers or at RWB when we need more attacking options in the field

Aside from, we don't have a system to suit

He maybe not a 'striker' but he still scored that hattrick the other month, when he was given the chance (yes I know it was the second/youth team or whatever)

He also had a contender in the goal of the season last year.

Call him a goalkeeper for all I care, as long as the ball's hitting the back of the net, who cares? I certainly wouldn't begrudge the GSM goals!

Don't get me wrong, I'm. A fan on him, but out of position just isn't good for him, but I do think there is a chance for him now as a sub for Coker or Gus

I'm a fan of JW too, but there is no way I'd play him at wing back. Gus' tackling isn't the best, but his is non existant. Midfield is a much better shout. He has a good touch and as his goal of the season contender showed last season, he can keep calm and finish. Improved body strength may be his focal point and hopefully that is improving.

Play him in a front 3 or in a midfield four with the other wide player tucking in . Otherwise move him on to a team that will. He needs games not more coaching

Akin maybe to Leeds Alan Clarke, a sniffer rather than a striker?

Its certainly telling us we sent him on loan somewhere who can’t provide the one thing we sent him there for. Might have been sensible to send him to a mid table team rather than a team flying and reluctant to make changes (understandably). What it probably tells us is nothing.
Maybe Torquay wanted him on loan and having trained with them they realised he wasn't what was needed for them.

Or the fact that they have a last six form guide of:

WWWWDW

They didn't want to change an unbeaten starting line up?
Yes, that too. But I don't think we decided to just send Wood to Torquay on loan - I think they also have to want him and I would have imagined that they may have given some non binding assurances that they would give him some game time. Unfortunately they haven't for what could be either your or my reason (or something else).
