Breaking News Jack Wood joins Torquay on loan

It isn’t about his performance levels or work ethic in training. This is a clash between Jack, who’s a lovely lad btw and the management team. Expect him to move on in January and do well at his next club

False.

Whilst I expect he’ll be gone permanently in January or the summer, there hasn’t been a clash between Jack and the management team.

There is massive frustration that Jack often is the best player in training, but cannot replicate it on match days when the pressure is on, but there certainly hasn’t been a “clash” or a falling out.

How on earth is he supposed to 'replicate' it on match days with under ten minutes at the fag end of a game which is usually lost by then. Never the first sub and hardly ever given a proper chance. Hope he does well at Torquay.

But that just backs up he hasnt been given a chance argument. If he's often best player in training then why isn't he get much of a chance on the pitch?

This is correct, and something I mentioned before. They are frustrated with him, but gave him so much rope as they saw him as a slow burner. Some players do the minimum in training and don't look so good, but on match day they are a different and much better player. Jack is the opposite. The few times he has started, he has been easily snuffed out of the game by the opposition. He's meant to be a top lad and liked by everyone. They really wanted it to work out.

Which just backs up that he hasn't been given a fair chance.

That doesn’t makes sense though. Give him a run of games starting and then see. Bridge starting every week and under performing is getting increasingly frustrating and doesn’t make sense. I hope Jack gets a move and produces what he clearly is capable of. I agree he hasn’t always been at his best with us but how many consecutive starts has he had. Brentwood would have been a good game to play him yet Bridge again gets the nod. I’m not anti Bridge either I’m desperate for him to recover his best form but at the moment that’s not happening. Be better off bringing Golding into the back 3 and play Ralph at LWB which I hope to see next week at York where no doubt defensively we are going to be very tested. I fail to understand if Wood is a good trainer and showing good signs how he’d be overlooked for the Saturday. Almost defeats the point of training

Not saying I disagree with anyone here, I’ve felt he deserves more minutes, but I just wanted to dispel the nonsense of there being a falling out before it starts being taken as gospel.

Same as the nonsense about the club putting a release clause in Cardwell’s contract because we want it and Cards never wanted it in there.

Far too much nonsense coming out at the moment.

I stand by everything I said originally,
It isn’t about his performance levels or work ethic in training and expect Jack to move on in January and do well at his next club. That you seemingly agree with.

Let me clarify when I say “clash”. There has not been a bust up incident or any drama. Perhaps rephrasing to say there is a footballing disagreement between what each feels Jack can do on match day and in which role. He has been very professional throughout and patient for his chance. He hasn’t in the view of many been given that. Torquay loan gives him an opportunity to play rather than further understandable frustration setting in. Kev has his favourites and a stubbornness with how he sets the team up to play.

Thank you.
I'm the same as you. I get flack for saying how it is. Sometimes dispelling a rumour can cause friction. Don't shoot the messenger, comes to mind. It doesn't mean to say we didn't want it to work out with Jack. He's a very technically gifted footballer. They thought him and Lomas were the stars of the future. Maybe he needs a change of scenery, and different team tactics to kickstart his career.

I just get the feeling of Hooper or Kightly with Wood. Think we will live to regret it, it’s clearly obvious that he doesn’t fit into into Kev’s system and he’d much rather have his players who have been completely out of form play over giving Wood a go.

Taylor when he first came didn’t look the greatest, took him a good couple of starts before he came into his own. Moving him into the back 3 turned him into the great solid non league Maldini he is today.

Shame as all the talk around him and John Still’s assessment was he was one of the best talents he’d seen. Hopefully he rips it up at Torquay and forces Kev’s hand to play him.

You're not disagreeing and you feel he should have more game time. Especially when several are not at their best and still picked. So, In your opinion, why is such a perceived talent given so little time to prove it? Personally I think he looks useful and can cross a ball. I suspect it is because he chooses to face forward and may not defend enough for Maherball. Maybe he should be an example of how to go about it?

He doesn't fit into the system most often used by Kev. He's not strong enough in a front two, and not defensively sound enough for a midfield place.

On the right of a forward three I think he'd do a good job. I guess the management don't think he's special enough to warrant changing the system to fit him in.

I remember when Wood was being played 'out of position' last season us producing some brilliant football. Admittedly he has Cards next to him but he was part of that never say die team.

As soon as we signed strikers he was not played again. It's a shame that it's not working out for him at the moment and I'm very surprised he hasn't had more involvement this season or even gone on loan earlier.

I am rooting for him to come back and pull up some roots...not too much of the roots attached to the Hall though!

You hit the nail on the head, he had Cards next to him. I've said it a few times, for our team specifically, he was priceless for us. We miss him so much, we really do.

Cards was priceless for our team and such a waste to see him getting so little minutes at FGR - he looked so sad and emotional at the end of our game v. them. I know we must move on but the effect of his departure should not be underestimated.
