Breaking News Jack Wood joins Torquay on loan

Quite a few anti JW comments particularly about what he does in training…..although no one knows what his training record is. Personally when he’s played in his natural position I’ve always thought he looks quite good although it’s been awhile now.

Good luck to him, hope it works out and does not come back to bite us in the long term

Please don't take my comments as anti JW. My comments were aimed at the not given a chance viewpoint, rather than against the player. I wish him all the best, there is clearly a player there based on the stats from his performances on loan at a lower level.

It’s not just this season, it’s last season and the season before as well.

It may not be ideal circumstance but he hasn’t really grabbed his opportunities with both hands. He’s had flashes but overall he’s looked like a squad player rather than a player demanding a starting spot. I’ve watched a fair bit of him in pre-season and I haven’t really seen signs of him kicking on from one season to the next.

He also hasn’t really found a position - not just in our system - but overall. He’s not strong enough to be a centre forward, he’s not involved enough to be a central midfielder. Maybe he’s a winger but is he tricky enough, maybe he’s a wide forward, is he a 10 - can anyone say for sure?

I wish him well but I think for his career he needs to establish himself a level down, improve his play strength and then use that platform to push on.
3 goals and 3 assists last year for a 20 year old over 30 games. Better than other players we've had. He went out on loan at Tonbridge the season before and did well. I would not be shocked to see him do well at Torquay

Ample opportunity? Really?

His minutes this season in numerical order;

1, 3, 4, 4, 9, 11, 14, 16, 66 (assist)

Is that really a fair chance when 7 of his 9 appearences have been fewer than 15 minutes? When 5 have been less than 10 minutes?
What about last season? Started plenty and hasn't shown any reason why he should be starting

Played right side of a front three. Ideal for him. Suspect from today will get plenty of game time, some goals, assists- which would be very useful except he’s playing in a position that tends not exist that often for us.

Who knows we may start using the three up top a bit more and that might open something up for him. But going to a top and big club at that level, who are flying in 2nd is an ideal opportunity
