Just heard on the phone from a mate who's dad's friend played golf with Tilly this morning that we are definately on for an Arab take over.

Two chaps from the middle east by the names of Sheikh Maahand and Sheikh En-Vaak are behind the bid and aim to freshen up our club.

:dim: Wino says in his match report (I think) that he spoke to Ron yesterday before the match at Carlisle, and Paul Fitz says in the statement on the Trust website that he spoke to Ron Thursday (I think, could be Wednesday!).

After the match, yes, although it doesn't seem to..........but that's kind of why the rumour machine went into full swing with this Dubai businessman thing.

Several people said that they did hear it on BBC Essex, but from the studio not from the commentary. However, no-one seems to be able to corroberate it properly.

So in summary:

Ron allegedly told a member/s of SOL1 that a "statement" would be released at 6pm Saturday, which has now come and gone obviously.

A few people have claimed they heard the story regarding the Dubai investment on BBC Essex. Which I myself and it appears nobody else on here actually heard.

Loads of texts bouncing around, all saying pretty much the same thing.

But at the end of the day, there is no statement from Ron and no confirmation from anyone that they heard this investment story on BBC Essex. Therefore at the moment this is pure unsubstantiated bow locks.

I can categorically confirm that, unless I'm going senile (there's a feed in for you Ken, or is it Len, even Les, perhaps mcmusty?), nothing of the like was mentioned at all in the commentary or studio after the game. I might have missed a minute of so whilst getting leads on "she", sorry the dogs, for a walk.

If there had been any rumour they'd have questioned it in their closing piece with Nicka Llicker about 10 mins from the end or mentioned it in the final seconds round up. Several people saying they heard is is an obvious wind up as there's only about 3 of us listening at 6pm when they finish.

That's my reading of it, I switched off just befor 6pm, and apart from a couple of references to our financial plight, there was no reference to any future backer whether he be from Dubai, Mars or Uranus.

I listened to most of the post match stuff and never heard it. Even on the topic of "Friends paperwork" they were keen not to go into rumour and hearsay that they could substantiate. It got a very brief mention but again they repeated the above. I doubt anything like this mysterious Sheikh would have been mentioned in any great detail given what they said about Friends situation.
