Post-Match Thread and Ratings Huddersfield Town 2-1 Southend United

Its been like that for quite a while now! The main problem is our away form 1 win in 9 I think it is, we have some tough away games coming up aswell. Our home form is going to be very important.[/QUOTE]

True, especially as our recent away form(that win at Orient apart)has been so dire.
I'm not expecting us to slip up against the likes of Wycombe at home but I suspect that when some of the big boys(ie top half of the table teams) come to visit(as with Norwich,Colchester etc)we'll be found wanting again.
Two consectutive defeats would really drag us into a relegation struggle.

An average crowd of 8,000 is enough to sustain a top-half/mid-table league one club but no more.
.

But we have been getting crowds like that this season (and in the past)and IMO we don't look like being able to sustain a mid-table place in Div 1 for much longer. The time for investment in the team is now.By the summer we might just be playing in Div 2.

No but I do expect him to start spending some of the money that has been earmarked for development.
If he's not prepared to do that then he should stand down and let others eg the Consortium take over.

What do you lnow about the consortium then ....

And more comments from Huddersfield:

We were pinching ourselves at 2-0 up - thought you had plenty possesion but ultimately you didn't really threaten our goal much and by the end we had the better chances. Thought Banard looked classy earley on but then drifted out of the game. Tall guy on the right wing had our left back beaten every time and you number 8 ran the midfield.

Walking away from the game afterwards I heard some Huddersfield fans saying Southend had played the better football. Whilst I don't think we were great yesterday, I've seen us play a lot worse. Unfortunately lots of nice passing in midfield is no good if you can't finish it off and have a shaky defence.

I don't disagree with any of that as none of it is inconsistent with the point I made!

I know that's what I mean Paul (good to meet up again incidentally), it's the story of our lives though, play good stuff but don't get anything at the end of the day. We have to get the sucker punch in and stop faffing.

To Be fair ppb for the first 15 mins we(town) played some good stuff, then the rest of the game we were quite bad.
I was impressed with your number 12, he ripped us to bits at times.

We are far too hard on ourselves!

You seem to be finding only the quotes that big Macca up!

And how do you suppose we pay for this investment? I don't think many football clubs accept food stamps.

Accept other people on the Board (eg the Consortium)who are willing to invest in the club,or sell out to them.Or alternatively(as I suggested before)spend some of the money earmarked for FF investment on players now.

We have had similar crowds in the past and managed to sign players. Where has the money gone ? :net:

This is a quote from a Huddersfield fan on Football Forums -

As I thought this was a tough game for us. Southend like to knock the ball about and run at defenders and we gave them enough room at times to do just that. However, we generally worked hard to get in front and at 2-0 I think we could have gone on to win handsomely. Once again we created plenty of chances and Rhodes could have had his hat trick on a number of occasions. Okay, it wasn't a classic but sometimes you need to graft and grind out a result and we did that. When I saw Southend's 4-5-1 formation I feared the worst but in fairness they were positive and when they attacked they did so in numbers.

I didn't think the game was poor more than it was two fairly evenly matched teams, albeit playing contrasting styles, trying to get the better of each other. Which I don't have a problem with. Quality was lacking at times but hey, this is the English third tier and sometimes it's a bit raw.

Is he sure????

For Gawd's sake, yes, they really were not that much better! It's what I keep saying and intimating at, a few teams apart we are no better or worse than anyone else therefore it's all still there to fight for!

Except they'll be thereabouts in the challenge for a playoff place and we'll be looking to avoid the drop unless we can bring some players in now.
Personally,I prefer to believe my mate's comments on another thread:-
<We were OK yesterday but rarely looked like scoring.<
He goes to every game ,home and away,as he has done for years now.
The only thing we've got to fight for this season is to bring a few players in this month before we drop further down the table.
