Are you being entertained?

I think we are not far off from being a Stevenage clone. They ain't doing too bad these days. Not pretty, not liked, but effective.

So will i but i won't pretend that i,m actually happy watching the tripe. Watch what happens when these one shot a game wins turn into draws and losses, you'll soon rear your ugly head as always!

Some times you can actually speak a lot of sense, but then you blow it totally blow it by stating 'facts' , not 'opinions' but facts that are totally wrong. We had two saved off the line today, so thats three shots, you also go on and on and on and on (you get the idea) about the lower crowds when it is a PROVEN FACT that the crowds are higher than we we last got promoted to league one.

get your facts right and more people might listen

As I said earlier, a Saturday crowd of 5,645 is NOT going to get the average for the season up over the 04/05 mark. It was commented on people were quick to turn on the team before the goal, the desire for change is only being suppressed by league position

UWS On the crowd thing. Didn't we average 9,000 plus during our second promotion season under Tilson?

Not knocking you because as you may have seen I'm defending Luggy and the team. But wasn't too sure about the crowds numbers comparing now till then. I thought we were well under what we got then.

I actually cant make up my mind on 'am I being entertained'.

At the moment the 'entetainment' from winning, and looking likley to win , and knowing that if we 'turn up' we are good enough to at a minimum be the equall to the rest of this league , is on balnce outweighing the actual quality of our game.

as an aside I took a guy who has not been for years today, and he thought we totally bossed the game

7500/8000 for the second promotion blue ... but we had Gills and Bristol City to help by bringing decent followings AFC will bring a 1000 but Macc, Creepy and Accrington won't bring 500 between them

typo in my post , I meant to league one, not from league one (from league two to league one}. there are loads of posts on here with actual numbers, not opinions that I cant be arsed to find showing that the crowds are higher now

A comparison ...

Friday 10th Feb 2006 SUFC 2 Rotherham 0 Att: 7879
Friday 10th Feb 2012 SUFC 0 Rotherham 2 Att: 4717

Of the 10 games post this time of year the 7879 was our lowest with 2 x 10K and 2 x 11k crowds .. but that was L1 into Championship so its not fair to compare really

comparisons for the L2 campaign ...

Fri 11 Feb Scunthorpe 0-0 8,224

Tue 22 Feb Shrewsbury 1-0 4,219

Sat 26 Feb Bury 1-0 5,553

Sat 12 Mar Lincoln City 1-1 5,824

Fri 25 Mar Rochdale 3-0 7,656

Fri 1 Apr Bristol Rovers 2-0 7,858

Fri 15 Apr Leyton Orient 0-1 9,189

Sat 30 Apr Yeovil Town 0-1 11,735

So on the whole pretty similar really, Scunthorpe & Yeovil were promotion rivals and the Ooze a derby

Ave 2004/05 = 6,077
Ave 2005/06 = 7,876

Ave 2011/12 = 5,810

To match Tillys first promotion season we need to get an average of 6687 for the final 7 matches .. can't see it myself

Oh here we go, statistics being dredged up to justify any sort of claims! Look, I really don't give a damn....I support a team and if we need to play a certain way to get back into League 1, then so be it. Change the style to suit the division, League 2 requires almost brute force (a la Stevenage, who I don't think we compare with, they were utter brutes) and if the brute force means a bit of hoofing then I couldn't care less. As long as we're in the top 3 come May I'll be happy.

I'm not putting stats up to prove anything, blue79 asked so i thought i'd have a little look to satisfy my curiosity as much as anything

Oh and we'll play the same the next season i assure you, no matter what league we are in .. its the Sturrock way

I feel entertained when my team wins. I get more excited by the forwards chasing long hopeful balls forward than centre backs passing it sideways to no effect. If this wins us promotion then for me that's entertainment. Over the past 50 years I've been watching Southend we've played many styles of football. Whatever works to get us up the leagues is good for me. At the moment it is direct, long ball. In a year or two it will be something else. I'm enjoying success and find it amazing that Southend fans can't just enjoy being top of the league with a good chance of promotion. I'd rather be a Southend supporter than an Arsenal fan at the moment .... well at any time to be honest.

am i entertained? as someone stated earlier, about todays match: first half no, second half yes.

If we are playing this way purely to get out of league 2 then i can live with it. but if the arguement of "it's league 2 and you have to play this way to succeed" continues next season (when we are in league 1)...

can ps change the style of football to something more pleasing on the eye?

do the current squad have the ability to play it on the deck?

all this and more will (hopefully) be answered next season.

Especially as it amuses me/angers! An emotion I can't quite place my dictionary on!

Ambivalence, experiencing 2 opposite emotions at the same time.

Anyway am I being entertained? Not really, the home games i've been to have been generally painful to watch, definitely better away from home though.

Is the football entertaining ? No..

Is the season entertaining ? Yes..

Ive been on Shimperzone far more this year than the last few and whilst the style of football is poor at least theres excitement and interest in the season itself.

Nowhere does it state by anyone who feels they are not entertained that they are not supporting the team ?

That wasn't the point I was making. I'm not saying that if you're not enjoying the games you're not supporting the team, I'm saying that I didn't realise that 'entertainment' was what people were paying their twenty quid for. If we're supposed to be entertained by football then I think I, and most people on here, are owed a hell of a lot of money back.

I thought that you go to football to support your team. To share in their successes and wallow in their defeats. To enjoy seeing them score goals whether they're 25 yard bullets into the top corner or ricochets off of a defenders arse. It's supposed to be escapism - putting your problems and **** in your real life behind you, going to a game and just concentrating on us vs them and who is going to put the ball into the goal more times in 90 minutes. I didn't realise that this football supporters contract specified a minimum number of passes which needed to be made in the build-up to a shot.

Am I entertained by the football? Probably not. Do I really care? Meh, not really. We're no less entertaining to watch than we were under Newman, Martin, Little, Wignall and others but we have the added bonus nowadays of scoring loads of goals and winning most matches. That'll do me.

I'm enjoying seeing us use what we've got available to good effect. I'm not going to question a mans tactics whos been here and done it many times before.

UTB

Good performance against a good side yesterday!!

I actually find the way Barcelona keep the ball with short slow passing really ****ing tedious!

They are only exciting in the final third, which is what football is all about! It's just about how you get it in the final third! And as I am quite an impatient chap I enjoy the longer pass to get to the danger area, this means we are better than Barc 'slow-boring-posession-along-the-back-four' -elona!

If we score more than the opposition I'm entertained pure and simple!

I don't think you have to say much more to prove your case.
