Are you being entertained?

When I commended Beefy for his Supporting the Club comment I don't doubt peoples support but just wish we can all really get behind the team now as now is more important than ever. I don't like the style but the end result of being in the thick of it at the top is a pleasing scenario. I've already explained I could understand the furore if we were well down the table but thats not the case. I think I've learned a lesson on this particular subject.

I think people are blurring the line between being happy and entertained, you simply cannot answer "we're top" to the question

I'm DELIGHTED to be top .. but its not good entertainment

I'm thoroughly enjoying it. The football's not very good, but it never has been in the fourth division. I remember being horrified at the standard on display when my dad first took me in the early seventies. To be honest, it makes the little flashes of inspiration that much more enjoyable. I loved Tilly's reign (he was also one of my favourite players), but I hated playing pretty football and getting mashed by teams full of bruisers in this league.

We can mix it up now, and we're not going to get bullied. We're also, you know, top of the league and have, until recently, scored a lot of goals. The crowds are what you'd expect and, while I understand people staying away (supporting a football team's not a job), there's no mass boycott going on.

Today was a bit dull but we won, and it's always more fun when the crowd get behind the team. A few more effective hoofs to the big man and we'll be playing Colchester again. Yay!

Yes. Hello...some clarity. I DID support the team today....I NEVER boo our players...I NEVER swear at our players (or the opposition for that matter) but am I being entertained at the moment? No I'm not.

Spot on. The question was are we being entertained,,the answer is no. If the question was would we swap league position for entertaining football and a mid table position I suspect the outcome would be different.

I still get just as excited and look forward to the games, but somehow I don't come away with satisfaction, usually I come away with gloom and disenchantment. Watching Southend is a bit like going on Holiday to Bulgaria

Goop point Lee but can I ask you, John , Smiffy and Mcnasty are you happy with our position? If so can't you just accept the style a little more as its where its got us. Not saying 100% for it as I'm not but the style has had its merits.

As a fan I am someone who loves the club and wants us to win every game I see, because of this I am always on the edge of my seat and nervous at games, my passion is for the club to do well and be successful, the way we play does not come into it at all. I am very rarely entertained at games because as a true supporter there is always too much at stake for me to actually enjoy it! In my experience it has only been miserable old gits and floaty fans that have been whinging about the way we play. The true fans are just pleased to see us doing well.

I think using the word entertainment in the poll question is pointless really. I think we are agreed the style is poor but at the same time happy that its got us in the top 3 at the moment. Just need a few more to buy into this.

Of course I'm happy with the position and Ive accepted that this is the style that is being used to try and win us promotion. But the question was, are you being entertained?....And that is a big fat no from me.

I have accepted it ... but the question was am i entertained ?? why do people keep on about our position ... THAT WASN'T THE BLOODY QUESTION !!!! :computer:

Incorrect and you're blurring the lines again. I'm not a miserable git or a floaty fan BUT I am whinging about our style of play. I don't like it....actually I hate it. I don't want Southend United to be associated with it. But I'm satisfied we're top as I want to see us out of this division........then I'm hoping we will start to play a little differently.

You've got it spot on there cockles.well said. HOOOOOOF

Imagine the reaction if we'd actually lost today. I cannot for the life of me understand why true Southend fans wouldn't be happy. We've had some real cracking games this season, ok more of them away from home, but this is League 2 football. Last cple of seasons I wasn't sure I'd have a team to support let alone be top of the league. My only worry is Sturrock will get bored of the negativity and if a tempting offer comes along he'll take it. He is paid to win football games at the end of the day. If I wanted sexy football I'd go watch Spurs where the players are paid £40k a week not £400. I'll be there cheering us on at Aldershot.

I cheered us on, and the win is everything. But am I being entertained? Not really.

Am I being entertained at the cost of £60 every time I come to Roots Hall? Definitely not.

Seen more games than I have missed this season but the cost is high for poor quality at a time when there is pressure on cash and so overall the cost is not really worth it.

I may well change my mind by the time the Creepy and Accy games come round - the magnetic pull of Roots Hall from deepest Suffolk is still powerful - but current thinking is I will give them a miss and save myself over a ton. I'll feel more satisfied with that.

Would I be more inclined to go if the cost was cheaper? Yes. Would I be more inclined to go if the cost was as now but the footie experience top notch? Yes.

The Creepy game is on Sky anyway and the tenner it cost me to keep the dog and myself in Guinness and pork scratchings over the second half I watched the Gills game was much better value.

UTB from wherever I am following the Shrimper's from.

First year of many that i sit there thinking this is tripe and i am not being entertained for my money. Supposed to be sport and can honestly say looked forward to the games much more when Sturrock was not in charge. I see that we are top of the League although not many people seem to be turning up to watch, even when vouchers are available!

I wish people would just look at the question and answer that. I am extremely happy but I am not being entertained.

This.

I'm over the moon that we're top of the league. It's an incredible achievement that we're even in the top 3. The feeling leaving roots hall, knowing we've grabbed another 3 points, is a great one. However, it's got to be one of the most boring spectacles imaginable. What is entertaining about constant misplaced passes, and comical errors? Yes, I do understand this is league 2, but you can't seriously tell me that these players cannot pass a football along the floor, to a team-mate?

This kind of response to the 'football' we are playing is really starting to wind me up now. Yes, we all know we're not Barcelona or Man city or whoever else you care to mention. We're Southend United. We don't like the long ball...never have, and our fans won't put up with it for any length of time...hence why we have nearly always tried to play a little bit of football down the years. All you need to know about what people sitting in the stands today thought of the game (especially the first half) was the near silence.
I've posted something very similar in another thread a few days back so apologies, but I can't see how anyone can mind paying to watch that, regardless of league position?? I know I can't justify spending a small fortune on something that now causes more misery for me than enjoyment.
I just hope that Luggy CAN mix up the style a little if we do get promotion 'cause I don't want to watch the game being played that way.

Post of the year so far...
