At last. The fog starts to clear and someone from the other side of the fence confirms what many of us have suspected for months. The EU needs us just as much, if not more than we need them and negotiations is certain sectors will reflect just that.

Once you finally wake up and realise we don't even need a trade agreement, then you will also realise that all the tough talk from Brussels is a total bluff.....They can mark as many cards as they like, we are off to the bigger game of poker...Know as the World Trade Tournament.

The idea that the UK won't need to trade with the EU in future (as it does now) is just laughable.

So they don't hold ALL the cards.

Never said the EU did.

"The EU’s chief negotiator in the Brexit talks has shown the first signs of backing away from his hardline, no-compromise approach after admitting he wants a deal with Britain that will guarantee the other 27 member states continued easy access to the City".

What do you imagine the price for that deal might be and also the "transitional arrangement" that Mrs May's Tory government probably also wants ?

You should be a politician with 'spin' like that. We will obviously trade with the EU. The fact is we don't need any agreement to trade.

The US don't have one and they sell more goods to Europe than we do. Probably why many of the undecided voters ended opting for Brexit after Obama decided to tell us how to vote.

This sort of thing really shouldn't be happening in a civilised European country.

:hilarious::hilarious: Oh dear Lord. It must be true though, it's in the Guardian

If you TRULY believe that Barna then you're even more of a deluded old fool that I thought and you do indeed deserve to be on the ignore list because your days of contructive contribution to whatever thread on here are over. Ta ra :hilarious:

Ha! I'll take that as a compliment,shall I? :winking:

As far as future trade with the EU is concerned, I imagine you're implying (but not stating openly) that we'll end up in the WTO?

Maybe so but we'd still have to apply for membership. That has taken some countries up to 5 years to achieve.

That's one of the reasons we voted out.

You have to apply to get card to shop at Makros . If you spent £280billion in their shop, do you think for one second they would cause a problem because of paperwork.

You don't seem to realise that big business tells politicians in every Western country what they want. The German car manufacturers alone, will make sure we will trade.

Brussels are desperate to make it sound difficult and you remainers are praying it will be. The fact is the games up and they know it and deep down so do you.

As a fellow shrimper I urge you to sell up in Spain while you can. Invest your money in some Britsh property because the Euro will collapse along with the EU. You can still live in Spain but you will have endless choice when it comes to renting.

I get the fact that Philip Hammond is clearly trying to bounce Germany into some sort of trade deal concerning access to the single market with all his talk about creating a bargain-basement Britain and slashing corporation tax.

However, I think a more sensible route would be for the UK to re-join Efta,if as seems almost certain Mrs Maybe will announce (or hint strongly at next). Tuesday, that the UK won't continue as a member of the single market.

Thanks for the housing advice.FWIW,I did consider buying a flat in Southend with my brothers back in the 80's.For various reasons that didn't come off and I've never regretted buying in Spain instead.

Btw,the Euro won't be collapsing any time soon (it's not in Germany's interest for that to happen). In the short term look out for another drop in the pound after Mrs May's Tuesday Brexit speech and again after the end of March when Article 50 is finally triggered.

Ye gods Tangled, you think we should listen to Mr insipid himself....Nick Clegg. The man specialises in failure.

He was given the power to keep education free in 2010 and he chose to be Cameron's Fagg instead. Her ladyship still regrets voting for him, 3 of her children have since been to Uni. That's 5 of us who will pay the price for the rest of our lives.

He's a convinced European though.So am I.

FWIW,I still fell bad about voting for the Lib/Dems (my last proxy vote) in '97. Couldn't stomach the thought of voting for Blair even then.

That's totally reassuring for anyone who has some lasting doubts about their Brexit vote. :winking:

Blair is the reason I stopped voting Labour. For different reasons than you I guess. Always knew he was a wrong' un.

Tend to agree with Ken Clarke, that Blair would probably have joined the Tory party, if it hadn't been for his "Labour activist wife" Cherie.

Dropping Clause IV was the end of the line for me.

He certainly showed an enormous naivity and both he and his party paid a very heavy price, in 2015, for his decision to back down on opposing the rise of tuition fees. I can only imagine it was a conciliatory gesture as a minor party entering into coalition.............some things you win, some you lose, that's what politics is about. In retrospect it was an extremely bad decision and Clegg could never have imagined how his coalition partner, the Tory party and the right-wing press would later exploit, in such devastating fashion, what was seen as a weakness on his part. Let's however not forget, it was the Conservative Party who raised tution fees, not the Lib Dems, their guilt only lies in not strongly opposing the measure.

Clegg gained votes for that one promise....No tuition fees. Him whining about how he had to compromise and achieved other things made people desert the party in their droves.

He had the power to say to the Tories....Whatever happens we will not have tuition fees otherwise you won't get a single thing through parliament, in fact we will side with Labour. The Tories knew the best way to sink the Liberals was to have Uni fees and boy did it work. Cameron was allowed to bully the house fagg.

Clegg has proved he is the last man in politics to have a say in Brexit negotiations. Of course the liberal left wont learn from the mistake Clegg made, so the Tories are dragging out Brexit. Once Corbyn and that other waste of space Farron speak about immigration then the Tories will win a landslide.

The only person who could take any Tory votes is Paul Nuttall but like the North didn't really take to Farage I don't see Nuttall doing well in the South. For some reason we don't take to angry/whinging scousers. However he could do some serious damage up North for to the Labour party.......After their record defeat I can see it now....."We need to listen to people"...."lessons must be learnt"
