Dead Kennedys

This was my second Dead Kennedys gig. The first was back in 2015 at the Ritz in Manchester, this one was at the smaller Academy 2 also in Manchester. However, the gig was a sell out which meant I couldn't get near the front to get some good shots.

The set list was pretty much the same as 2015 but I have to say the sound quality wasn't as crisp as at the Ritz. But that can happen when there a lot of people between you and the speakers.

The DKs played all their best known songs and the highlight for me was Holiday In Cambodia, and my favourite track, Police Truck.

At just £25 to get in, I certainly got my money's worth!

Roger Waters - Manchester

I am not going to go into the Pros and Cons (geddit?) of Roger Waters and his less than cordial relationships with his ex Pink Floyd band mates after leaving the group in 1985.

Fast forward to 2022 and Waters announces this will his last ever tour so I thought this will make a nice Christmas present from my Dad and if it is no good then it doesn't really matter. It turned that this was his last ever show and it was spectacularly good. The sound was perhaps as good as I have heard at a concert, the visuals were fantastic and we even had a flying pig!

Waters has always been a political Animal(s) and I share many of his views. I don't care if he sings about them or puts them on his visuals. But what I don't like is him stopping the gig for a (scripted) tirade. In my opinion it is the equivalent of an unwanted drum solo. I reckon we lost a good 15 minutes of playing time while Waters rambled on!

But to music, the show opened Comfortably Numb but without Gilmour's (he will get another mention later) iconic guitar solo at the end, followed by more stuff from The Wall and some solo tracks before he returned to more classic Floyd material. Now during this part off the show, early photos of Floyd formed part of film on the giant screens above the band. Most were of the Floyd with Syd, some were of Waters with Mason and Wright. But none contained an image of Gilmour! I don't know if this was a deliberate act by Waters or maybe Gilmour refused to allow his image to be used, but I suspect the former rather than the later.

During the opening of Sheep the screen had some information about Orwell and Huxley, written by Waters of course, and how his song should compared favourably with Animal Farm, 1984 and Brave New World. Maybe it should, but it is not up to Waters to say it,

The second half of the show started another two tracks from The Wall, some more solo stuff before ending with the whole of the second side of DSOTM. He encored with Two Suns In The Sunset, the last track on his last Floyd album The Final Cut. I got bored with his final chat and left before the last number had started.

I loved the show, it was genuinely moving at times especially with so many people singing along to Wish You Here. I am so glad I went as unless Gilmour tours again, or Mason's bands extends their repertoire, a lot of this music will ever be played again by the people who wrote it and/or recorded it. And I think that is sad because it is good!

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon!

I went to the O2 one last week and thought it was amazing. As you said, the production is spot on and the sound was as clear as anything I’ve heard at a gig before.

I thought a lot of what was being said, the messages (a lot of the cryptic ones especially), and even the lyrics were completely lost on the crowd though. I don’t think a lot of people really “get” Waters.

Saw The Who at Barna's Palau Sant Jordi last night .Execllent show (complete with orchestra this time).Last time I saw them IIRC (which I do) was back in 1979 ,43 years ago,at the Hammy Odeon with Rob Noxious. That was a standing room only gig (in the aisles).Last night my wife and I got a free upgrade from the 3rd tier to first row tickets in the 1st tier (with a nice view of the stage from the side + 2video screens.Roger Daltry in particular was in fine voice.Quite liked his nod to Peter Townshend in one of the last numbers "Won't get Fooled again"."Welcme to the new boss,Same as the old boss".Made me laugh.

I saw the Who in around 2012 in Leeds on what was billed as their last ever tour. I certainly won't get fooled again and will keep my money in my pocket!

I had tickets for their last tour in Barna -about 10 years ago now -that was cancelled though they played in Mardid and (I think) Zaragossa too. .Probably explains why they were so keen to play here this time around. As PT said from the stage they hadn't played live together for 7 months before last night's gig.I wouldn't claim to be a superfan ( which RN certainly is) but (as I said) I thought the concert last night was excellent.Althought the concert wasn't sold out there were 8,500 noisy ,enthusiastic fans there according to the promoters.

The Who worth it? Used to like them as a kid and tempted to see them whilst I still can. Well, the 2 left anyway

Saw them about 4 years ago at Wembley. Only time I have ever seen seats covering the Wembley pitch 🤦🏼‍♂️

Pretty much showed the age of the audience and the remaining 2 were struggling, I suppose an experience but don't expect too much 🤷🏼‍♂️

NO orchestra at Wembley then? (I suspected that was rather a new thing). What impressed me about the Barna audience was that there were so many people in their 40/50's ie people who could never have seen The Who play live before especially as it was their first (and presumably last gig here).

My thoughts exactly with some of the bands I go to see. I have a friend who used to go to see The Fall and Motorhead whenever they played in London because he knew that tour could be the last.

I do pretty much the same with Hawkwind and would definitely go to see King Crimson if they tour in the UK again. I was so glad I caught Jeff Beck on his last tour before his sad passing earlier in the year. I saw Roger Waters' final show of his final tour last Saturday and last year The Damned on their original line up tour.

My advice is if you can afford it go because they won't be around forever!

I have friends going tonight as well. The true Arctic Monkeys fans seemed to be loving it, they are very polished, very professional and very tight but don't engage with the audience at all.

I left the Emirates saying I am glad I have seen them and great to hear so many of their best songs sung live but I wouldn't pay £100 to see them again, no comparison to a live gig by Muse or Cold Play in my book.

Last couple of weeks saw them at carrow road and totally agree..musically brilliant and a great night but saw depeche mode last night at twickenham…different level showmanship and life affirming goodness by perceived synth pop gloom merchants..local boys and so underrated for 40 years in this country ..Gahan is a whirling dervish of a front man at over 60 and they are still making great music as their last album testified..off to see them in Budapest next month as well..

Ha! Once saw Motorhead in the early 80's when I was working in Montpellier at a time when I pretty much went to see any English band, whether I knew their stuff or not..Walked out after about 10 mins -far too loud.

Remember seeing Rory Gallagher in the same period -he wa excellent.

Brilliant, I need to see Depeche Mode again. I used to see them at Crocs (Pink Toothbrush) way back in the day & always followed their career.

Their success was obvious from day one and thoroughly deserved and I agree a different level from AM 👍

Hawkwind?! Send me a DM!

Saw Bob Dylan's Rough and Rowdy Ways tour at Barna's Gran Teatro del LIceu (Opera House) last night.Absolutely stunning concert.I'm afraid those who wanted to hear Dylan singing Blowing In the Wind* have rather missed the boat however. He did do quite a few old favourites though including Watching the River Flow,Most Likely you go your Way (and I'll go Mine) a playful I'll be your Baby Tonight and a stunning When I Paint my Masterpiece with a great Cand W band. +Gotta Serve Somebody (withouth the religous choruses, thank God. :Winking: .As befits the name of the tour most of the tracks came from the RARW album apart from a wonderful rockabilly version of Buddy Holly's True Love Ways.

*Last heard him play this at Blackbushe in 1978.Done reggae style!Dylan's songbook keeps getting up.dated. Have to admit I rather missed hearing All Along the Watchtower which I 've heard him indroduce as "a Jimi Hendrix song" but c'est la vie I suppose.
