Saw Chick Corea at the SC Auditori last night. He started with this old Miles Davis number.

Not bad for a 72 year old.Though I have to admit that I'm not a great fan of piano jazz, certainly nowhere near as much as I like blues piano.

Best part of the evening for me was the jam (after CK's solo piano concert) with Paco de Lucia's bass player and a local percussionist.

Swans in Brighton last night. One of the best live experiences at the moment (along with Nick Cave). My ears would be ringing if I wasn't so deaf.

Arcade Fire at Earls Court on Friday night. Looking forward to that one.

Me too.
And I just saw Loop (mesmerising) supported by Godflesh (brutal) and now my ears are so ****ed that everyone sounds like they are on helium and the pneumatic drills that are out at Victoria station are purely a visual thing. They played a track off their first album that was just pure feedback. They finished on a Can cover that in comparison was virtually disco. Quite a big Southend contingent in the audience and I do love to see an old face.

I went to see 80s 'supergroup' Asia at the Picturedrome last week. Three of the four original members are recording and touring, while Steve Howe is concentrating on Yes. Geoff Downes is doing both, indeed he wore the same hideous turquoise trousers he sported when I saw Yes in Sheffield last month.

They played for 95 minutes, encoring with their biggest hit Heat of the Moment. John Whetton's voice is still as crystal clear and powerful as ever, despite his advancing years (he turned 65 on the night of the gig). Asia never received much critical acclaim but they did write some well-crafted pop songs in their creative heyday.

Eagles at the First Direct Arena in Leeds last night. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures, not that really mattered as I was three rows from the back.

The gig started with Henley and Frey on acoustic guitars performing a duet, they were then joined by original member Bernie Leadon for a number as a trio, before the rest of the band turned up for the first half of the set. Leadon did not appear for the second half as I guess they were performing songs recorded after he left the band.

The second half was a bit more up-tempo with Joe Walsh and bassist Timothy B Schmit taking centre stage on several numbers.

They started playing at 20.15, and with a 15 minute break, they finished just after 23.00.

I am sure you can all guess what they encored with.

Saw Acid Brass on Sunday who are always ace and unique plus DJ sets from Don Letts and James Lavelle. Bought a pitcher of Pimms then the others turned out to be driving. Hic.

La Roux at Conway Hall - little PR gig at a venue I last went to about 20 years ago to see Bikini Kill.
Tonight was uber slick - they have been away a long time but have not been sat around watching repeats of the Bill. You can hear it in the fact the first album tracks sound tinny in comparison to the new stuff. And getting a sax player in for just one track shows the attention to detail. Yey for the 1980's.

Just on my way home from seeing Arcade Fire at Hyde Park - couldn't justify spending £60 to see them for the 4th time in 7 months so waited til 10 mins before they went on and bought off a tout for £20. 10 min bus ride from work to gig and then a walk to Victoria afterwards so home soon after 11.30 - would be wrong not to do that.
Started a bit slow and outdoorsy but built up and it fit more as it got darker and Wake Up is better the more people there are to sing along so all good.

Enjoyed Bryan Ferry's gig here last night.Same band as at Glastonbury and this was his last number.

Saw our ex-bank manager (now retired) in the carpark after the show. That sort of gig I suppose.:winking:

Anyone go to the Village Green in Chalkwell Park? Makes me feel proud of Essex that an event like that can be so well organised and have so many things on offer and keep around 20,000 people entertained. Everyone seemed very happy and relaxed. Didn't stay to the end as kids were flagging but beatbox kid Schlomo and Dan Le Sac v Scrobious Pip pulled big enthused crowds and, erm, rocked the mic. Goldmaster Allstars played a very nice set of ska and rocksteady. My favs Danny and the Champions of the World played a Nasville inspired great set with slide guitar and an inspired use of sax. Indoors I was very impressed with Velvet Morning (dressed as Jesus or in dresses for some reason) and some very tight post punk from Lord Numb.
bumped into a lot of people from my past. Great day out, well done to everyone involved.

Think I might go again tomorrow and take my kids as Lorde is supporting and there are some cheap seats still kicking around. Tonight was rad.

Forgot to post about this. Yes, that Friday night gig was just stunning, one of those shows that stays with you for ages afterwards.

Beer fact - you're not allowed to give the bar staff at Earls Court a tip. Seems harsh.

Village Green yesterday, didn't see a lot of bands but local band Eight Rounds Rapid were the best of the day (think The Fall, Dr Feelgood, Nightingales)- spotted Wilko watching them from the wings, and Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip played a terrific homecoming set.

Saw Emenem at Wembley on Friday and the show was fantastic,We experienced the "Go Berzerk" package which ain't cheap but to be treated like a VIP was excellent as served with free food and booze for the evening was class.
