get out there and vote

I have just been interviewed by Sky News at Benfleet station and asked for my opinion on the UKIP council and prospect of a UKIP MP.

It's edgy stuff but if Sky have the balls to broadcast it I predict my response will shake the political establishment to its core.

That and the establishments of beatboxing and robotics dancing too.

They wont Cyril. I got interviewed once by BBC News after getting a fine and a ban for speeding. They showed it on the local news programme but cut out all the bits with swear words in which was most of it. Very tame.

mad cyril i love you x

Have UKIP actually won control of a local council anywhere in the UK?
thought not.Welcome to test cricket.

The answer is no (at present).
What appears to be happening so far though is that they are dealing serious damage oi all of the other parties.
Taking votes from Labour as well...why do you think this may be?
Bearing in mind they are not the party in power.

I voted Green in the Euro elections but the fact that all the local councils have gone UKIP leads me to suspect they won't get in.

I had an option to vote for the Roman Party ave. But I thought they might not be taking the thing seriously enough.

That's what makes this country great, only in Britain,he and his family have won the jackpot living here, hope they know that?

I don't think he quite sees it that way. That's not to say he's not happy, but I think having lived in many countries over the years he has a more rounded opinion than most of us.

You may be arrogant to believe he's hit the jackpot, but I suspect he knows better.

I think Ed winning rather than David was a surprise but I don't think there was any tactical voting going on. Certainly there are rival sides in the party who will back the person that fits their politics more and will do that at the expense of personality. David was seen as an easier sell to the public. The fact they are brothers gave it a much greater sense of drama.

If my dad is anything to go by, there was a kind of tactical voting. Admittedly one person hardly constitutes a decent sample size, but my dad voted for Ed Balls first choice, and Ed M second choice. His reasoning was that David M would win and he wanted Ed Balls as is number 2.

Lo and behold Ed M won it based on peoples' second choices.

UKIP is the only option for anybody who doesn't lean left. Under Cameron, the Tories have fully embraced big government technocracy. environmental puritanism and crony corporatism masquerading as capitalism. They need a kick up the arse to return to the glory days of Maggie, and even the Iron Lady wasn't tough enough on Europe and immigration. Farage is the only credible conservative leader in the country at the moment.

Now there's something we agree on. But let's not also forget it's not just crony-ism on the corporate front.

Good to see Alex Kaye get her comeuppance. Independent in Thorpe Ward.

Also Barna, they might not have any overall control in councils but they have taken a few away from the other parties into a a NOC which means they have a chance of getting in.

What type of council could we see in Southend?

A **** one? No change there then.

Both UKIP and Labour can (and will) claim that they've done well at the local elections.

UKIP haven't done well in London.Labour did.Labour have gained more council seats than UKIP.

In answer to your question,Robert Ford and Matthew Goodwin draw attention to what they call the "Brussels +" factor in UKIP support.

In other words, opposition to the EU,while obviously the key factor in UKIP's core appeal, is not sufficient in itself to attract people to switch from the Tories or Labour.

Other factors that come into play are immigration, or dissatisfaction with the performance of the Tories in government (since 2010) or Labour before that.

There's no question that a lot of working class, ex-Labour voters have switched their support to UKIP.

Whether they will continue to support UKIP at next year's G/E in a first-past-the-post-election remains to be seen.

UKIP will obviously target certain constituencies (eg Castle Point) at the next election in order to win at least one Parliamentary seat.

Labour is likely to continue its current 35% strategy, which seems set to make them the largest party at the next G/E though without overall control.

Let's not forget either, that the big losers in the local elections,(and almost certainly the Euros too)were the Tories and the Lib/Dems, not Labour nor UKIP (obviously).

Be interested to find out how many of the UKIP Councillors are ex Tory Councillors. The amount of newbies is what did for BNP because they don't have the experience or the party machine to do a decent job (and BNP Councillors were renowned for rarely turning up) - the more Tories they have the better chance they have of not ****ing up too much.

Tories lost control of Brentwood, part of one of the safest Tory seats in the County. Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP won't be happy.

Interestingly, no UKIP Councillors in Brentwood, Lib Dems the big winners gaining 2.
