Freedman Overated

simple. dougie is overrated. despite the odd flick and occasional through ball he does not do a lot. fair enough, nice pass to set up betsy and scored a nice goal 2 weeks ago, but he is simply past it. no commitment, no passion. a true lazy player, yet he is one of the top wage earners at the club with some fans absolutely worshiping him. when he first joined he was a very exciting prospect. i still believe him working behind the scenes can't be bad, but his constant whinging and pointing on the pitch has a clear negative effect on some players. he has no pace so can't/won't take anyone on, and when he does he gets nowhere. then he won't try and win the ball back, instead he points or shouts instructions to someone else. he is not our best striker and not even our second best! those titles are occupied by frenchy (laurent) and revs. people say he "oozes class" and all that but afterall, he hasn't exactly set the world alight during his career. 0.3 goals per game if im not mistaken. i totally expect the backlash from this thread but am not too bothered. i'd rather speak my mind than be a sheep and agree with majority, just to live an easy life. i wonder if anyone else is brave enough to go against the majority and speak their mind? i know i'm not the only one who's fed up with him.

stop fishing :net:

The only comment I will make is ask Leeds fans. When Freedman joined them on loan from Palace last season they were heading for mid table. With Freedman in the team and scoring goals they got to the play off final, before losing to Doncaster.

That isn't going to happen to us, but I honestly think he is one of the most intelligent players I've seen in a Blues shirt for some time.

Totally agree,a decent discussion on one of our players, then all of a sudden the clique arrives, and they know best again.

What "clique" would that be ST? All I see is several, and quite a varied range of posters all generally agreeing for once and coming in to defend Dougie Freedman, no "clique".

And having just seen Harry's post above, that about sums it up. If we can keep Dougie even 75% fit for the rest of the season, then ending up just outside the play offs is definitely on the cards.

I can't remember a Southend player giving so much encouragement ( not Discussing ) to the players around him, especially the youngsters, and their ears prick up and they take it on board as they have total respect for him.

I have also seen a few players try it and the recipient has gone into a little trot and totally ignored the player giving instruction.

It's not about Dougie being good or bad for the team(i rate him)it's the dismissive attitued of some folk on here and their high and mighty attitude towards certain posters, and you know exactly what i mean OBL and please don't pretend otherwise.

I actually rate DF highly, However i thought yesterday was one of his poorer games, His touch and passing at times were dreadful and i actually agree that at the time i would of taken him off instead of Theo. Its a good job im not the manager then!!!

This is going to be seriously off topic, but I can't let that lie ST. Have just gone through the thread up to the point where you mention the "clique", there are 22 different posters, with all but 2 of the same opinion - the thread starter and, predictably TTK. I'm guessing it's Ayrshire's comment you're objecting to which comes in at 27? This is followed fairly soon afterwards by Brettie Angell and Irish Shrimper posting comments, with mine a bit further on. If Rob wants to allow himself to be tainted by the "clique" brush then he's welcome, but are you honestly objecting to 4 people happening to post on a thread just because they are part of a supposed "clique"? Seems very unfair to me if so, are we not allowed to share opinions?

Still pretending i see, your not in the clique as well are you,my god.

Can we get this back on topic please.

Aha... perhaps we can start an :offtopic:clique!;) But seriously, maybe Fred just needs to be 'the man,' the bigger fish in a smaller pond... I'm sure it's a confidence thing, which tends to be exposed more keenly amongst goalscorers & 'keepers than players in less prominent positions. I hope he comes good again, just not against us somewhere down the line...

Wrong thread!

:stupidme:WHOOPS- should be in the Fred thread currently happening. Dougie for England... (yes, I know he's a Scot)

This post has surely got to be a wind-up? I saw the marks given on the match report and couldn't believe it. It appears to some that unless someone charges around at 100mph they're lazy or not playing well.

The irony being that the likes of Alex Revell and Matt Harrold have been criticised (by the same people?) for the exact opposite.

I'd like to see Dougie understand a bit more about what the crowd feels about him, I don't recall him going round the stands at the end particularly. Might be wrong, but just don't remember seeing him do it - would be good if he could feel the adulation in the same way as some of the team do.

Think he's a great bloke to have in the team, probably more influential than the Goat was in all honesty. He's also always very rational in talking with the officials, a very wise head, coupled with his skills, that's a tremendous asset in a L1 team.

the majority of our decent attacking moves go through him, and he's one of our top scorers despite missing large chunks of the season. what more do you want?

I'd agree he is a little bit injury prone, but all our strikers at the club seem to be at the moment.

I'd have to disagree with stating that Freedman's scoring record over his career of 0.32 (not 0.30) is not that good. That works out at around 14 goals for a full season, which aint bad. It's certainly more than twice as good as Revell's 0.14 that the original poster rates as better.

Correct and he has scored most of them in a much higher division than any of our strikers have (inc some old players like Freddy)!

Ludicrous thread, he was class yesterday and was the difference between 1 point and 3 !!!

PLEASE REMEMBER HE IS NOWHERE NEAR FULL FITNESS!
