There have been a lot of comments regarding Eastwood's place in the pecking order of strikers. While he may not be the player he was we will never know until he has a run in the side. You can't expect any player to perform at his best without time on the pitch. The trouble is he may well have to wait for that opportunity, while Brit and Tomlin are playing so well.
My point all along. If he cant make the starting lineup in a JPT game when can he. Then again i cant argue with the result, we beat a very good div 1 side without Fred, to be honest i dont no what the anwer is.

Good point, but at present history shows that we held on for the 2-1 win and therefore the correct decisions were made

I hope the same comment applies to Benyon...............

When Ive seen Benyon play he has never had any effect on the game. Eastwood at least has a couple of goals and does look to influence play when on the ball.

Whilst its hard at present to see Eastwood getting a run in the side its even harder to see Benyon getting a chance.

Benyon scored a lot of goals for Torquay, he is obviously the fox in the box type but since he left Torquay in Jan 2011 he has scored 3 goals I believe across 3 different clubs. He has no real other attributes that a non goalscorer would need to be in the team. Tomlin wasnt scoring at the start of the season but his link up play and running of the channels was top notch. Corr holds the ball up well and Eastwood can create chances for others also. Benyon should just be written off as a poor signing and out the door in Jan. He is slow, pushed off the ball too easily and seems to have lost the strikers instinct he obviously once had.

Totally disagree about Benyon. He is quick in the way that Timlin is quick - where it matters , the first 5 yards.
For a little un he actually gives as good as he gets.... shoving his backside right into the centre backs ala Lee Barnard + so doesnt get pushed off the ball except when he is fouled. His running off the ball is good + i would bet that he is the best one on one finisher at the club.

All he needs is a run of games + the confidence will come flooding back. I see him as a younger version of Jamie Cureton + he is still banging em in aged mid 30's.
I do agree however that the current front runners of Brit , Tomlin + Corr deserve to play ahead of him , i just feel Benyon should be used far more as a sub when the others are cream crackered.

ok i ll put my money where my mouth is Mr Baptiste .....I 'll have a tenner with you ( for a charity of your choice ) that Benyon gets more league goals than Corr this season ( for whatever club that may end up being )

Think you just threw a tenner away.

Corr has already scored goals since his return and always looks far more dangerous than Benyon.

Wouldnt write Benyon off as he did do well for Torquay but I just dont see what he brings to the game, unlike someone like Tomlin who I never thought would score yet at least his contribution elsewhere was good.

Ha Corr will destroy him in terms of league goals. Benyon wont even be at the club after January. A tenner to the Zone owners would be nice

What youve said is true of him when he was at Torquay, not on the evidence of what he has done for us.

So basically you're banking on Corr getting injured again and Benyon leaving for the Blue Square? I'd argue that Corr has probably already scored more goals than Benyon will this season unless he leaves.....

haha yeah fair enough ..... i do like to bet on the under dog !!!!!

Maybe i feel a bit guilty as i managed to avoid eye contact with all 17 doo gooders that approached me whilst i walked to the pub in the city at lunchtime yesterday .... save a tiger/save pandas/save a child/ red cross/save a Col ewe fan ectetc ... sorry but i didnt have any change

Mr . Baptiste where shall i send the tenner to ?

Not sure about the Cureton comparison and only an idiot would bet against BBBC, but I agree with the rest.

He got chucked in at the deep end the first month he was here when he clearly wasn't match fit for his first five starts and when we were trying to change our playing style to appease the moaners and didn't have any shape. He then got dropped to the bench just as he looked like recovering some sharpness and confidence, but he earnt his way back into the team in March scoring 2 goals in 4 starts and a couple of sub appearances. He then got sent off the start of April and was suspended for three games so since the end of March he's started three games - last game in May, first game in August and last but one game in September. The only decent run he had in the team, he actually produced.

IMO we have never used Benyon effectively.
The games he got last season were mostly those in which we were playing a fairly long ball type of game ( Hoofball I think it was called by some on here ).
Playing Benyon and using this style has no merit for anyone.
Britt and Tomlin are on fire , so everyone else needs to wait.
However , if and when one of these two leaves or is injured or loses form etc , then I think we could do worse than give Benyon a decent run.
The guy has scored goals in the past and knows where the goal is , but according to some on here , that doesn't matter at all for some reason ?
Please drop the 'Wasn't Freddy great and will again be our saviour !' mantle and have a little dabble with the real world.
If Freddy had done anything in training to convince Sturrock , then he would have had more game time ( mainly substitute appearances granted , given the current fron two ).
IMO , the order behind the current two is BBBC next and then Benyon / Eastwood on a par ( maybe even Harris will move ahead when he gets fit ).

So you want to give Benyon a run in the team, but won't afford Freddy the same?

Who - me? I'd stick with Tomlin and Assombalonga, with BBBC first cab off the rank.

But I think those writing Benyon off are premature. As he played and got minutes under his belt he showed signs of improvement. He looks a tidy player and any of Corr, Assombalonga or Tomlin look better partners for him than the players he was paired with last year.

I'd agree with the notion that Benyon hasn't enjoyed the best of pairings or midfield support when he's played and I'd like to see him working alongside another forward with the kind of midfield we now seem able to put out regularly. Stick him in a confident, winning side along an in-form striker and we'd probably see a completely different Benyon to what we've had so far.

One thing I will say about him, he seems a popular character in the squad.

Good post, he needs some luck and some good game time, he has a great attitude.
