Why? Its a team game not about one individual. A letter in the Echo said no one is bigger than SUFC or any club and we are treating Fred as if he is bigger than anything at the Club. Base opinions on his displays and goals scored. I think it will work but I don't think we're helping the cause with over the top expectation. And yes Indo believe Fred is home.

The hype at this stage because of the NAME is phenomenal. Again lets see how he does. Granted he may well work wonders but lets see if he proves this. Nothing like over the to extra pressure or expectation. I genuinly want it to work out but am keeping my feet on the floor. For if it doesn't pan out my bump from crashing down to earth won't be as sore as those who are becoming complacent.

It's not because of his name, it's because we've all seen what he can do. But regardless, no one is putting pressure on him or anyone else. We're just trying to have a rare moment of optimism as opposed to the shower of despair that is life as a Southend United supporter generally. Why can't you just let people enjoy the moment?

I and we do know what he is capable of. At the moment what he's done is history. What he's still to do remains to be seen if he can achieve. I'm not knocking him just not taking it for granted. And not wanting him saddled with too much burdens of expectatiuon. I mean if he doesn't produce he'll feel hes let everydown down drastically.

I know, and I do understand what you're saying. But you're not going to convince anyone that they shouldn't be excited that Freddy is back. You're not coming across as the voice of reason, you're coming across as a massive party-pooper.

We're football supporters. It's our job to go over the top, get excited, build our hopes up and, yes, maybe cause ourselves to experience massive disappointments. It's Paul Sturrock's job to worry about expectations and Freddy's fitness.

Beefy understand what your saying but plenty of managers do often say not to be too complacent. That said I'm thrilled he's back, I hope he is here to stay , hope he plays a great part in the run in so let him get on with it.

I loved your facebook message last night. How many beers?

So many. I feel awful this morning. So so awful. But it was worth it. I was telling everyone in the entire city last night that Freddy had returned.

oh shut it, who cares!! freddy is back home!!

Hahahaha....THIS!!!

And THIS as well. It's the happiest the board has been in ages, why Southend fans are trying to put a dampener on it I don't know. I realise he can't possibly live up to the hype, but if he's a fraction of the Freddy we know and love, well that's fine by me. Unfit Freddy v Barnet/AFC/Macclesfield....no contest.

If it works out on the pitch and we want to sign him, I reckon its doable. Yes he'll have to accept a lot less money but if he's been sensible with his (I'm guessing here) £10k-ish per week at Wolves & Coventry he's already a very wealthy young man, and who else is going to sign him on a big salary now anyway? He's a home-bird, his family are still in Essex as far as I'm aware and the travelling community like to keep family close. Probably partly why it hasn't worked for him in the midlands. This is his spiritual home & I'm sure he'd rather be happy and playing where he's loved on £1.5k per week (another guess) than miserable on a lot more, away from friends & family, not getting a kick..

Agree 100% with this, I reckon Freddy realises now that happiness is more important than money and being near family and friends, playing football every week in front of fans that adore you will be worth a lot more than receiving £8k a week and being unhappy. Let's face it, he wouldn't being playing for nothing either - he'd be one of our top earners which is still a decent salary (compared with the majority on here). The Romany community have particular values that are not in accordance with most people in the UK (don't want to get into a debate here about that) and this may well be in SUFC's favour come June/July time. Until then, let's get behind the team for the final 8 league games and hope that this means we don't need 3 more to secure promotion!

What is does seem to guarantee is that next Friday will be fun with a bit of anticipation thrown in. It's been a while since people experienced that at Roots Hall so for that alone it has to be a good thing.

Supporters, by and large, don't want all the "the reality is" spiel as they generally know their team's failings, they want to dream when they go to a match, they want to hope. At least against Cheltenham there will be a bit of that for a change.

Blue79 go watch some paint dry, while the rest of us enjoy the moment.

We'll give you a shout probably around July time.

Cheers:moon:

Just him signing is enough for the players dressing room to be really buzzing and give them a new lift its perfect timing for the run in !

Went down to training;
Fred looks basically no different since leaving maybe just a bit bulkier because he's older and been in the gym! But certainly not fat and did not look unfit!

Looked chuffed to bits 'welcomed home' by a few fans and fitted in nicely and scored some cracking goals in the drills they were doing!

I reckon he will start tomorrow!
