Question First goal you witnessed live

City Ground, 1996, Nottingham Forest -v- Liverpool. Steve Stone scored into an empty net after Stuart Pearce thundered one from outside the box that David James couldn’t hold.

Collymores first game back at Forest after leaving. Booed every time he went near the ball. Was all too much for him that day, but what an atmosphere!!

I can't remember. I understand that I was taken to my first Blues game when I was three (so probably in '64) and the first game I actually remember attending was the 7-0 home win v Workington on a sunny Friday evening in '68. I can't remember any of the goals though. I recall being at RH when Billy Best scored but also, I can't tell you anything about the great man's goals. Makes me feel a bit sad. Probably the earliest goal I can actually remember was Terry Gray's header v West Ham in the 2nd League Cup replay in late '79.
I'm the same sadly, my actual first game was goalless, & I can't remember the next!! (Though I also remember being at that 7-0, standing behind the south bank goal.)

I see the next home game after that Exeter 0-0 was Jan. 14 67 Halifax at home & we won 1-0, someone tell me who scored the winner & that well could be my first 😄

The first I truly remember, now standing behind the North Bank goal, slightly to the right, was Billy Best v Brentwood in the cup a year later, hopefully the first in that ridiculous five goal spell in the last 18 minutes!! (My mind is telling me a header?)

Southend United 1 - 0 Halifax Town
Scorer: Flatt

Attendance 6,905

We didn't score in my first match, but I returned a few weeks later to see Pat Laverty score one of the 7 goals scored by him in his 23 matches. That solitary goal was enough to beat Bristol City.
A Welshman, he left Southend for Wellington Town and was later Assistant Manager to Geoff Hurst at Telford Utd (Wellington Town was renamed Telford Utd). He passed away 6 years ago at the age of 84.

That was in 1960. It was four seasons later before I saw my first away goal which was at a rather wet Layer Road in a 3-1 defeat. Peter Bullock was our scorer. An interesting signing as it was widely rumoured that this inside left/midfield player had been signed in error instead of his younger brother, Mickey Bullock the bigger more prolific and out and out centre forward who was also at Birmingham at the time. Peter was played at centre forward in a very lightweight forward line for 5 matches until they cottoned on and put Bobby King up front (good cross-thread link here). Bullock played out his final seven matches in midfield before being dispatched to Colchester where, to be fair, he did reasonably well.

Either Roy McDonough or Barry Silkman vs Hereford at Roots Hall Friday 18th April 1986. 3-1 win and I have no idea who scored the first, but Super Roy got 2 and dodgy Barry got the other one.

Eddie Firmani - At Roots Hall Not a clue who it was against, the year was 1967.

@RHB @ Mick

Firmani scored 8 times in the 1966/67 season ALL of them during 1966.

His name doesn't appear at all in the 1967 part of that season or in the following 1967/68 season. I'm assuming from @Mick's response he moved on?

It was the 66/67 season, so, not wishing to incur a further correction from @Mick, it must have been 1966. Either way I saw Firmani score my first live goal.

First live goal was Geoff Hurst for England against Wales in 1968 (school trip) Not got a clue who scored my first live blues scorer. But I do remember it was a Friday night.

@TSG Colin Flatt seems to have been a one season wonder for us:
Born in Blyth.
Came to Southend United in June 1966.
Made 22+2 appearances (League and League Cup)
Scored 8 times all in the League
Moved to Wisbech Town in June 1967
Might be why I can't remember! (Though I do recall seeing his name in those early programmes, so I certainly saw him play that season, hope that Halifax goal was a cracker 😃)

I believe it was Super Steve Phillips, at the Hall .. from (admittedly, hazy) memory.. we got absolutely taken apart by Blackpool - 84-85 season.

Edited to add, Blackpool scored first but I assume that doesn't count! :)

Just once against Newport at home, but he didn't score.

He returned to Charlton where he was to become the first Italian international to manage an English League club.

My first game was Christmas 1958 - we beat Stockport - can`t remember a thing about it. Was taken by my Uncle Mike who sadly passed away at the age of 93 on Saturday.

Cannot remember my first goal though - must have been sometime after that
