Question First goal you witnessed live

Can’t find any video, but Stephen Broad putting us 1-0 up on 7 minutes on the way to a 2-1 win over Cambridge in Division Three on 26th August 2002. Can’t remember it at all, but do remember Jay Smith scoring the winner on what I think was his debut.

Cambridge had Luke Guttridge and Dave Kitson in the team that day.

17 March 1992 a 2-3 home defeat by Portsmouth, not sure who scored first, I'm old and there are no records of scorers I can find online apart from Tilly and Keith Jones scored for us, but what order the goals were scored in I can't tell you

My first game - David Crown v Lincoln, Sherpa Vans Trophy, November 1988.

A 2-1 win with Crowny getting both goals.

14/9/90 Home to Preston in THAT promotion season. First scorer was Dave Martin, but I remember the John Cornwall volleyed winner in the last few minutes, as well as Preston's 2nd goal being dispatched by the unfortunately named John Thomas.....

Someone asked me this earlier & I thought it might be interesting to hear some others.

My first ever Southend goal was Mike Marsh against Port Vale at RH, in 1995.

What was the first ever Southend goal you saw live? Pictures/videos earn a bonus point.

Jeez - south lower was rammed!!!!

I can't remember. I understand that I was taken to my first Blues game when I was three (so probably in '64) and the first game I actually remember attending was the 7-0 home win v Workington on a sunny Friday evening in '68. I can't remember any of the goals though. I recall being at RH when Billy Best scored but also, I can't tell you anything about the great man's goals. Makes me feel a bit sad. Probably the earliest goal I can actually remember was Terry Gray's header v West Ham in the 2nd League Cup replay in late '79.

Terry Gray vs Stockport on Halloween night 1980. Keith Mercer got the second in a 2-0 win. I have the programme from that game but no picture or videos. I can't even find a picture of Terry in any kit other than Huddersfield's.

We didn't score in my first match, but I returned a few weeks later to see Pat Laverty score one of the 7 goals scored by him in his 23 matches. That solitary goal was enough to beat Bristol City.
A Welshman, he left Southend for Wellington Town and was later Assistant Manager to Geoff Hurst at Telford Utd (Wellington Town was renamed Telford Utd). He passed away 6 years ago at the age of 84.

Southend 2-1 Brighton Dec 1991 - I think it was Tilson first and then Ansah, but could be the other way around.
