Films you've watched recently.

I re-watched The Lighthouse on Sunday evening, introducing the film to my son. Still brilliant. We're both fans of Robert Eggers.

The Lighthouse has a nightmarish quality, great performances, amazing soundscape and wonderful cinematography. Shot on a box-like ratio of 1.19:1, it has a sense of claustrophobia about it. Excellent flatulence, too.

With a background in production design, Eggers has a crazy commitment to detail in all his films.

Can't wait for Nosferatu to come out this January.

My mate was in The Northman. Said Eggers was brilliant

Saw the BBC'S 1977 Play for Today,Abigal's Party again on DVD yesterday.WE Were lucky enough to see a revival of this in the early 80's At the Swiss Cottage theatre,IRRC. It's a savage & wonderfully funny dissection of the aspiring m/c.Doubt if much has changed since then.Remember the "sophistcated " m/c audience absolutely howling with laughter when Beverly made the ultimate faux paux of putting the bottle of red in the fridge,FWIW ,my late father -in-law,very much a man of the Midi, always put his red in the fridge in the hot summer months!

Alison Sreadman is suberb and it's easily Mike Leigh's best play.

Saw The Miracle Club At the Balmes with Mrs Tangled earlier.Maggie Smith's last film. Not a bad way to go About a female outing to Lourdes from Dublin but I don't go a bundle on the religous stuff, personally.

Just back from the Odeon after seeing Lee Miller before it finishes and so glad I as a great movie based on facts of Lee being a War photographer after career as a model.

Also saw a bit more of Kate than I was expecting which was not a bad thing.
Don't tell me she's got them out again. She once said in an interview that she's very proud of them.

Barna's IN -Edit (music documtary ) season started yesterdau .So today I took my self to the Aribau cinema to see the Boss's Road Diary: Really quite good:You can see its premier tonight on Disney TV apparently::Winking:

Was it several times? I only remember once in the "bath" scene:must be getting old.:Winking:
Doh.Was sat upstairs watching QT (remember it's on an hour later in Spain) when I "remembered " Kate W. also gave film spectators, (incidentally all women apart from me in Beziers, a flash in the garden party scene,.Suppose I could say once you've seen one pair you've seen them all. but even I know that's not true. :Winking:

Oh, she has form (if you'll pardon the pun).

From what I can recall off the top of my head (besides Titanic):

Holy Smoke
Heavenly Creatures
Hideous Kinky
Jude
Iris

There might be a couple more.
Actually (as my next post made clear) I was talking about Lee Miller:Haven't seen all the films you mention (but most) but quite happy to take your word for it. :Winking:

Saw The Stones & Brian Jones by Nick Bloomfield earlier at the Aribau in Barna's In -Edit (music documenary) festival earlier. My favorite period of the Stones' Music (they played a lot of r and B & Blues back in those days. It was a good watch.

Enjoyed The Great Escaper with Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson, which Mrs Tangled and I saw at The Balmes this pm.Althought this did get a screening here at Barna's film festival back in April, this is the first week of its cinema release here.Probably helped by GJ's untimely demise,

Both national icons imo, I bet their tea break political chit chats were interesting😉but seriously a lovely lovely film, a true storey as well.

I read somewnere)probably when the film was first released in the UK that Michael Caine quickly released that Glenda Jackon was a lefty and didn't pursue matters. Also that at his age he had no idea whether or not he'd make it past lunch! Agree that it's a "lovely" fim with a lot to say about WW2 ,getting old & living + dying.Didn't know it was a true story!

Ghostbusters (2016) - I did not like this at all. I had to resort to turning the sound down to mute the awful accents, especially Melissa McCarthy.
