Another vote (or two) for Banshees of Inersherin which we saw earlier.Thought it was funny and extremely well acted.
You need to develop your taste in film @CrickoAfter all the hype I started to watch Banshees and thought it was a load of rubbish. Binned it after an hour.
I loved it-----Far better than "In Bruges"Another vote (or two) for Banshees of Inersherin which we saw earlier.Thought it was funny and extremely well acted.
True but both actors are older now.I loved it-----Far better than "In Bruges"
Less swearing=a better script.True but both actors are older now.
That is also true. But In Bruges was a self conscious arty movie whereas Banshees wasn't.ps Did all the fecking go over your head?Less swearing=a better script.

It certainly was.But couldn't match the black/ironic humour in Bansees,IMO,.You might want to have a look at this link about swearing btw. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/feb/09/is-swearing-still-tabooI found that to be very funny.
It really wasn't.But In Bruges was a self conscious arty movie
This thread appears to be a bit highbrow for me, but I'll lower the intellectual tone and mention I finally watched Top Gun Maverik over the weekend. Was ok-ish. Clever effects of course, very cheesy, and Tom Cruise has only got a choice of two facial expressions available to him nowadays. I'd give it somewhere between a 5 or 6 out of 10.
It was certainly self conscious. Not really happy about the term art house movie anyway.Would imagine we could agree that it was funny. It really wasn't.

Think I called it a cult movie when it was last spoken about on here, which it certainly was.Probabaly didn't get much of a UK release either back in the day, which perhaps explains why an obvious film buff like Baldy didn't see it first time around.Sure - very funny. I despise the term arthouse movie - a cop out. I can agree it was slightly self conscious.
Not one of JN's best IMO.Made after 9/!! when he'd decided only to make comedies in future (Tell that to Martin Scorsee).I saw this wonderful film on Netflix yesterday....View attachment 24764
Seem to remember a tout saying that-back in the day- when I was queuing up for theatre tickets at the WE ticket booth.Fortunately I'd already seen the film.Watching 'The Long Good Friday' on Film4 on Channel 14 . Has to be the greatest British gangster film ever made .
