FA Trophy Round 5 Southend United vs Sittingbourne.

Another decent home game against a lower league side. However these games are never easy as proved against Southport.
Probably the club will again only open the North and East which is a shame but understand the reasons why

On paper this is what we’d have picked, but the flip side is that the banana skin is bigger.

They reached this far in the competition just like us, so they can win games. We just need to make sure our attitude is right, and then hopefully we can navigate this one.

A bumper win would be lovely, but these cup ties against opposition from lower leagues rarely turn out that way.

Ramsgate are a decent side and have been knocking for years but its a huge step up. Look at how many NLS or NLN teams come up from Tier 6 and fail to make their mark... Now drop 2 leagues further. I am sure they are no mugs but as long as we don't go all cocky then guaranteed 1-0 win ;)

Yep, the gap is a lot wider than it may sound as there’s well over 100 teams between us (NLN, NLS, Northern Prem, Isthmian Prem, Southern Prem Central, Southern Prem South) before you even get to their division.

But confidence does go a long way and they’ll have nothing to lose so it’s not a forgone conclusion but we should be favourites so long as we take it seriously.

Norman Wabo blimey great spot. Amazing where these players turn up, he'll be in his prime now ! Only just moved from Maldon & Tiptree going by Wiki, not exactly hit many goals since his departure at the many clubs he's been at. What a turn up though ! Bit like Femi Akiwande moved from Hornchurch to Billericay i found out today.
Well, all we got to do is beat them.

Sittingbourne have won 7 ties to get to this stage, and five of those ties against higher league opposition. In terms of beating two Tier 6 clubs, Enfield are probably a tier 7 side given they are struggling in first season up, and Salisbury aren't established at that level either. This jump up (to play us away) however is massive - and to go toe for toe for 90 minutes with professionals who keep the ball well will be very challenging for them. It might be tight for a while but second half you'd expect us to win comfortably.

Whilst they (Sittingbourne) are 2nd in the league and lost just one game - they play in the 8th tier of football against other tier 8 teams - all part time. I watch alot of tier 8 and 9 football and whilst its not that bad they would be huge outsiders to come to Roots Hall and win that against a team three divisions above. The fact people think this is a bananaskin shows how far we really have fallen.
I’ve watched a lot of isthmian prem and isthmian north games over the years and have usually been impressed with the standard. I am rarely impressed with the standard in the National League 😂 especially from our own side.

Be good to see the return of the original Jack Wood - remember people crying out for him to get a game.
what a joke of a career he’s had, not settled or delivered anywhere.

Norman (still only 26) moved on from Sittingbourne to Redbridge last month.

This is their current first team squad, according to their website:

The difference between them and Southport is looking down Southport’s squad there were a fair few very experienced heads - Knight-Percival, Proctor, Philliskirk etc. - Sittingbourne just don’t have that, not even to the level that Brentwood had. Their captain Bagasan Graham played about 8 games in League 2 for Cheltenham (he was on the bench when we beat them 3-1 in 2012 - Sean Clohessy, Britt Assombalonga and Mark Phillips got out goals to give you an idea of how long ago that was!) but that’s about it.
