Pippy is on fire! hopefulyl we can keep going! Bopara has indeed been selected as an all rounder however as shown against Glamorgan he is currently not good at either.

Rubbish. 2/28 off 4 overs is good bowling in 20:20.

More to the point it's ridiculous to dismiss someone on the basis of a single 20:20 game.

It's also worth noting that it was only four ODIs ago that Bopara was man of the match as England beat World Cup favourites South Africa, before then taking 2-22 off 8.4 overs as England defended a total of 243 in a must win against West Indies.

Hants 95-6!................typical...............told you they'd probably win it!.........although they didn't exactly play out of their skins:smile:..............and another 101-7!

Cracking 20/20 match........no team clearly on top til the last over. Phillips is showing some good form, though yet again we only have one spinner compared to the oppositions 3. Napier said he is a few days away from being fit, don't know how long Styris is out but would be good to get one of them back.....Westley was effectively making up the numbers (came in at 9 and didn't bat). Good win but need to capitalise and win tonight as well as the bottom two are adrift and after that qualification is anyones.

Blueblood did you manage to go or did you get rid of your ticket?

I was surprised that Essex used Southee as a pinch hitting opener and it worked a treat with a little help from the Hampshire fielders. I'm not really sure that the number of spinners fielded was relevant last, I'm very pleased for Phillips given that he's been a bit of a sick note in the past, he's bowling in particular has been invaluable. We definitely need to beat Sorrey tonight as Essex have played a game more than the other sides.

I know Blueblood didn't go but not sure about his ticket.

Great stuff last night, our innings was very strange but I felt that we had a total we could defend. Our fielding was exceptional and in the end I think that was the main difference on the night.

Good point for your lot last night

To be honest think it did neither side a favour.

South groups looking very tight this year.

Interesting day at Chelmsford yesterday........ Seventeen wickets! Thought we had made a big error, electing to bat, when we were all out for 183. By the end of the day the decision didn't seem that floored.............a wicket prepared for a result or was there just a lot of movement out there during the day?

According to a report I read a combination of bad batting and the overhead conditions.

Think thats been a case with quite a few CC games this season. Been some real low scoring games, the other week there was a game at Lords which saw more than 20wkts fall in a day. First you think there must be problems with the pitch but when its happening at regular intervals then its down to good bowling and poor batting.

Bloody Hell!!! didn't realise that Northants were top and unbeaten. At the moment it really doesn't look as though we have the bowling quality, nor is batting living up to the expectations, for us to be promotion candidates. However, there's still quite a long way to go.

284-5.....Wheater 150.........should set them a total well in excess of 400+. Any point in declaring tonight? Haven't seen the weather forecast for the next two days?

Sterts to look as though declaring won't be an option! 331-8, Foster still there but running out of partners. If we're out fairly quickly it could be a tricky end of session for them.............415+ should be enough. Foster out and we've declared.

The reason for the low scoring in Div 2 is due to a couple of things they are trialing including a different ball and also not being allowed to flatten the track during the game and thus making it harder to score in the process.

We declared on 331-9 with Wheats scoring 163 off 143 balls. Fossie got his 103 off 150. They closed on 37-1 and with a boiling day tomorrow, i wouldn't be too surprised if they chased it down!

In t20 action, Somerset unsuprisingly won against Glamorgan! Gloucester set all kinds of records getting 254 against Middlesex with Irish O'Brient getting 119 of 52 balls (he hit more 6's than 4's) and Marshall also getting a century but that doesn't really matter as they are the bottom two. Kent beat Surrey so now sit 5th but we do have the advantage of playing Kent twice so that should work in our favour as we can do more about being above them and that game on the 15th July at Chelmo could be crucial!
