I've never walked out of a T20 game before "because you just never know" .. as the 4th fell last night i thought maybe i should, but i still had half a pint left and Daniel was tucking into burger and chips because that was infinately more enjoyable than sitting in the drizzle being embarrassed, we were 5 down before i finished my drink, 6 before the boy had finished eating and 7 as he used the loo, i drove home hoping we'd scraped it over the 100 mark and saw in fact just 82 .. last night i was fuming, angry at the club for being so bold and brash (they were a little more becalmed during the interval last night when talking of upcoming matches) the players for being so absolute ****ing **** and hell even the physio and fitness people for not conditioning the players properly (2 crushing defeats this week have also contained 2 injuries which is not good at all) I was also angry at myself for jumping on the hype bandwagon and purchasing my tickets for all our T20 games in advance, i've two tickets for England Women v NZ Women followed by Essex v Hants next Thursday, £11 each if anyone wants them cos i don't particularly want to go

I'm a little calmer today, i saw a wonderful display of clean hitting, timing and power from Somerset old and young duo of Trescothick and Hildreth .. Tres was a joy to watch (pity our batsmen weren't doing likewise) and Hildreth looks like he has it all and is an England player in waiting for sure and talking of England Tres should still be opening in 20 and 50 overs, even if he only plays the home series he is a master of his game and we must utilise that

Ok so chasing 225 was never going to happen but aside from the 30 odd we plundered from the first three overs we were DREADFUL with the bat .. RtD hang your head in shame, absolutely ludicrous shot at anytime but 2nd ball ?? ****ING NUMBNUTS

Well anyway suffice to say we were ****, Somerset excellent and let me know about those tickets

Think we can write off the T20 for this season.

I actually found it easier to take than the Surrey defeat. Somerset can score that against any county team and once a team has scored 200+ the chances are their opponents are going to take too many chances in trying to keep up with it. Surrey have nearly as good a batting line-up but we'd restricted them to a very chaseable score and blew it.

If Essex had to lose to anyone, I'm struggling to think of few I'd rather it be than Marcus Trescothick.

But make no mistake, this season is an absolute disaster.

Looks like the ducks will win tonight. With the weather forecast I've seen, one point is all that we will get. Couldn't have had the same weather when we played Somerset.

If anybody can bear to watch this shower again, we are away to Glamorgan on Sky Sports 1 tonight, 7pm start.

I took advantage of the members only early bird tickets scheme meaning all my T20s are half price but i had to get them by May 3rd, seemed like a good idea when we destroyed Gloucester but less so now, the thought of going all the way over to Chelmsford on Thursday and sitting in the rain hoping for play (or hoping for a point from an abandonment might be better) when the game is on telly is not a prospect i relish

Three overs in, and the bowling and fielding is hopeless. What has happened to Essex this season?

Well, after that 3 overs it certainly picked up and bar one expensive Ravi over it wasn't bad. Awesome catch from RtD (despite doing his best to muck it up).

Shah and Pettini now ticking along after a shocking drop.

Well a win is a win and maybe that could be the springboard to a better second half of qualifying, still don't fancy Thursday though so if anyone wants my tickets ...

IIRC, when we got our first Championship win, that also was going to be the turning point of the season. A win is a win but that was a truly awful one, apart from an improvement in our bowling after the third over (well it couldn't have got much worse) and Shah's knock, there wasn't much else of merit (Sorry, I forget TdD's catch). Then, when we were confortably on track to reach their mediocre total we attempted to commit suicide with THREE ridiculous run-outs! Luckily Glamorgan's catching was of schoolboy/girl standards (primary school), otherwise we certainly would have lost it.
I had a longish thumbnail at the start of the evening. By the end there was no need to go to the bathroom to cut it, it was well bitten down. A performance anywhere like that tomorrow, against unbeaten Hants and we will end up with a defeat rather like that against Somerset..............however, knowing Essex, we'll probably play out of our skins and win.

Southee Opening, strange decision but a good one. 57 from 26. Bopara not playing!

Bops is on international duty (as is Captain Cook).

Sounds like a fantastic knock from Southee and an inspired decision to promote him. Now the rest of the team need to back him up and build on that momentum.
