England v West Indies 1st Test

England all out 377.

Swann opens the bowling WTF???:stunned:

WTF indeed! Just seen that Broad opened from one end, and Swann the other. I guess Anderson may be suffering the effects of the blow to the head, but why didnt Onions or Bresnan open from the other end?

Has anyone come up with a good reason for opening with spin??

Think Strauss is being a bit too cute here. I fear Gayle may get into Bresnan/Onions and could ruin them but if you are going to give them a chance, you have got to give them a chance!

Apparently Swann got Devon Smith 3 times in the winter tests.

Gayle hits 2 4's in this over (nay make that 3 - off Broad!) and lets hope we dont see Swann again, for at least another hour!

You're not going to get your wish as Swann carries on. I'm a bit surprised that Onions didn't get to open the bowling as he is meant to be pretty effective against left handers.

Gayle is looking scarily useful! He looks like he is in IPL mode still and has probably clobbered 5 4's already!

Oh - and Bothman ISNT impressed! Lol!

Even on absolute bunsens you usually give your seamers a few overs to open up....to start with spin, at Lords, in May, seems baffling. Given the Windies start even if we do get a wicket now we would have effectively 'bought' the wicket rather than try to apply pressure from the start with our seamers.

Very Odd indeed.

Swann takes Smith!

Extraordinary, really. I think that's the fourth time Swann has got Smith out, which suggests both a weakness against spin, but moreover a lack of concentration when someone new comes onto bowl. What a day Swann is having
19.1 Swann to Smith, OUT, bowled him! A corker from Swann who charges around like a maniac to celebrate. Tossed up and it just holds its line, and bowls him through the gate! Well, well - Smith's done it again and missed a straight one
DS Smith b Swann 46 (50b 7x4 0x6) SR: 92.00

and he's ona hat-trick

Swann to Chanderpaul, OUT, caught him, got him, he's got him! Swann's on a hat-trick! Lovely flighted delivery just outside off and Chanderpaul, with no feet movement, edges it to Collingwood's left at first slip who takes a simple catch!
S Chanderpaul c Collingwood b Swann 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Bugger me I go for a dump and we take two wickets. :( I think I'll spend the rest of the game in the khazi.

Bad light stops play, looks like an early Tea Break.

West Indies 117/6 (24.2 ov)

Swann takes another and Onions gets his first.

EDIT 117/7, Onions takes another. 3 wickets in 4 balls.

Windies 117-6, Swann picks up Nash, and then Onions gets his 1st wicket next ball, as Simmons is caught at slip by Strauss.

Edit - Beat me to it Naps :)

Edit - 117-7, as Onions make it 2 in 3 balls (3 in 4 balls for England). Taylor out, caught by Prior.

Onions has got them in a pickle. He's got a real spring in his step. etc etc

Pathetic.

It's difficult to take satisfaction when the opposition put up such little fight. Now 119/8 and it may well be 9 by the time I've finished typing.

Shame Phil Mustard isn't playing, then we could have celebrated that caught behind with relish.......
