England v West Indies 1st Test

Early on Baker was the pick of the bowlers, he had an 8 over spell for 15 before lunch. Taylor has been ok, but not really threatened.

As far as Edwards is concerned I was with your mate as I've never thought he was going to be that good, but the improvement in the last year has been terrific. I am pretty sure he will be in the top 10 before long, he also seems to be getting better in the one day stuff.

I thought Strauss opened in Napier. According to Bumble it was Vaughan v NZ last summer.

100 to Ravi top effort by him, let's hope he goes on from here.

Strauss at 3 in the 3rd test v NZ at Napier

Michael Vaughan, my Lord, Michael Vaughan scoring a hundred at Lords the next test

Bell's 199 was at 5

No doubt cue those peculiar claims that Lords is not an easy 'seeing' ground....

Yeah I think Gower said that for the sitter that Nash spilled, the hardest chance was the one to Benn in the gulley, but as he's about 6' 12" it came to him at a catchable height. ;)

Interesting that Bresnan is coming in ahead of Swann.

Haven't seen Bresnan bat for some time, but I had Swann down as the more talented but I think Bresnan has been batting pretty high for Yorks. Actually I think Broad bats below Swann at Notts so maybe county batting should be ignored.

That wasn't the first significant stand between Bopara and Broad because there was this one which had me very excited as to the future of English cricket.

God knows why it took them nearly two years to be playing tests together.

Bresnan didn't last for long, Benn gets him lbw and Hawkeye suggests it would have gone over, I guess that makes up for earlier when Ravi may well have been given out.

I can't explain why it's take Bopara & Broad so long to bat together in tests, perhaps Miller or Moores could enlighten you.

Stat alert from cricinfo

Assuming Bopara makes it to 146, then both these batsmen will have made half of their total career Test runs in this innings
